Thanks for the help!

I talked to my wife and she was like: do what you love and what makes you happy, not what saves you some money. I guess I'll look for a used M10 (P or R) then...

Good wifes don't interfere with happiness/money/etc.

Another view concerning M10.

I was one of the early users ( M10 bought in 2017 ! ).

Time passing, I tend to use more M24x family for it's battery life and pictures hardly different from M10 ( in my use, M240 is good enough ).

And I have (bought second hand over time) M-D, M246 which share same batteries as my old M262 ( purchased new one year before M10).

This one M262 is my favorite, as this one never let me down since 2016, with lightness as bonus.

Choose your own path ...

M262, Apo-Summicron-M 90mm, le Gosier

Thanks for your input, very interesting! I'm currently using a Lumix S1, which has 24MP (I think) and that's enough for pretty much everything I do. I do favor the M10-R mainly because it's a much newer camera with a more modern sensor. If it has 24MP or 40MP doesn't really matter. I would honestly probably also buy a M10-P simply because I love the stealthier look of it 😳

I'm also looking for lens options, and I think I'll start with 35mm. The Distagon looks like a fantastic but chunky lens. SO many options.

Oh, I'm too late!  I was reading this thread and was about to agree with the other opinions that an M240 would be an great choice.  The excellent battery life and black paint option being two big point in it's favour.  I don't think any digital M in the current line is available in black paint?

As for lenses, Voigtlander has a good selection of 35's if your credit card needs a rest!

Haha thanks for the help

I decided not to buy the M240 simply because it’s so old already. Might be an unwarranted fear, but I’ll live with that decision now. Downside: some nice Leica glass has to wait 🥲

I completely disagree.  I own the M10 and M10R, and the M240.  My M240 gets as much use as my other M10s.  Age is not a factor as far as I am concerned - it's a Leica and will last and last.  The M240 is still a great camera as long as you understand its scope and limits.  With that in mind, I can and do get great shots with this M camera - that is a fact.  It has live view like the M10, and even video.  And, no, the video is NOT bad, as others seem to want to say (if you know how to use it).  Do not get sucked into the hype against the M240.  Are the even older M8 and M9 cameras avoided because of age and older sensors?  Not at all.  You need to understand and appreciate what these Leicas have to offer, and as a result, will enjoy using them with great photos to show for it.

it was a gut decision. I knew I wanted a used one with a warranty, and when I had the chance to get a brand new M10-R  (which was cheaper / as expensive as used ones), I went for it. It also was in the Leica store in my city, where I could see the other Ms. I also ordered a used Summicron 50mm , and can't wait to go out and take photos with it.

Beside that, I don't have a problem with older tech. Even today I love looking at the photos I took with my Canon 5D so many years ago, which is an ancient digital camera today. I'm sure a M240, which is much newer, would have been fine, too. I also really don't care for a video function. I never ever used it on any of my cameras for more than a test, I'm a photographer. My iPhone fulfills all my video needs, not much more to say :)

The M8 is the reason I wanted to own a Leica M for 15 years or even more now. Touching and holding it, this feeling, I never forgot that. There is nothing like it and I'm beyond excited to finally get one.

I stepped from M20-P version to M10-R. Much much better? Of course. Details.

But.

The M-P version is great in the capabilities to set the button for exposure to 'soft'. It is great. (I miss that on the M10-R).

And the details of the M-P are superbly sharp for the amount of pixels. & Yes of course it has some cyan in corners with wide-angles. The two newest Leicas do not have that. But the colours of the M240 remain great and just right in my opinion.

So go for it. And be as happy as your subject.

I just bought my first ever Leica, a M240 here in Sweden 2 weeks back. I am so far super happy with the output. Though I will have to send the camera once for dust removal from sensor.

Here is a shot from a low light live performance.

Start with a Rocket Blower. I can't remember the last time I actually had to directly clean the sensor with a swab etc.

If you actually need to wet clean, I would avoid water-based cleaners like the one you link to: they don't remove sticky stuff or oily marks, and they leave drying marks IME. I use an alcohol-based fluid.

Leica M240-P

May I ask what does the exposure for soft button do (I presume make a soft exposure)? Where is that in the menu?

There are plenty of reputable brands - consult your dealer. I would avoid Eclipse -the (huge) bottle appears to dissolve the plastic softener over the years, leaving very hard to remove residue on the sensor.
