D1 Color space

Hi

Does anyone happen to know (remember!) what colour space is native to the Lieca Digilux 1? My images taken with this camera are tagged with just "Camera RGB Profile". I'm assuming that this is sRGB, but does anyone know for sure?

Cheers, G

OK, I've just done a little Googling around and found that if you import images into iPhoto (which I often do to initial select images) then the Camera RGB Profile is attached to the image by iPhoto! And so this profile does not originate form the D1. However, Apples own website goes on to say "If an image already contains an embedded profile, iPhoto will not overwrite it." So does this mean that images from the D1 originally had no colour profile at all? Can anyone confirm this? (Unfortunately I no longer have my D1 so I can't just take a picture to check.)

Thanks, G

Hi lct,

Many thanks! I wonder why iPhoto embedded the "Camera RGB Profile" when one was already present? Any idea?

(I remember you as an old D1 user. I switched over to a Canon 5D, when I realised I just couldn't afford a M8. The 5D is a great camera, but I would still like a digital range-finder, perhaps I'll be more solvent by the time the M9 is out... Still I'm managing to find a market for some of my pictures taken with the D1. And hence the need for the profile information. My printings getting pretty serious, and I want to get colour management perfected to keep wastage to a minimum.)

Cheers, G

I don't use iPhoto sorry. Just checked the embed color profile with 2 different Macs. It's exactly sRGB IEC61966-2.1. You know how to remove it i guess, otherwise just 'Save as' your pic and uncheck the profile case in the save-as window then close your file and re-open it in PS or same that's all. :)

The color space is sRGB. A profile is not the same a s a color space, and there is no specific profile for the D1 unless you provide one by profiling the camera with a target and suitable software. Unless you attach a camera profile, iPhoto will use the generic sRGB profile.

The Camera RGB profile is being embedded when you import the images into iPhoto. I do not use iPhoto either so can not tell you specifically how to change the import procedure in iPhoto. I use Imagecapture to import images. iPhoto may use Imagecapture as well to import images behind the scenes.

You can direct Imagecapture to tag images with what ever profile you want. The default profile it uses is Camera RGB. iPhoto is probably doing the same thing.

The sRGB IEC1966-2.1 profile LCT identified is the profile Solms used to calibrate the D1.
