The firmware update notification for the SL2-S popped up in the Fotos app this morning, but not yet for the SL. I'd received the email notifications for both yesterday, so went with the SD card updates. Nice that they're still updating the SL.

Got one and with the firmware update no longer low power issues, finally 🙂

I intend to test the same since v.5.2.0. If I understand your comment correctly,  were you able to record 4K or shoot @ Continuous-High Speed with the battery at less than 20% charge ? Which battery did you test with?

Please do wait for some time, since after the 5.2.0 update, if I set on iAF or AFc, I can hear clearly my SL2S keeping focusing with motor noise even with I doing nothing there, only when I get into the menu page, it stopped, and back again when I leave the menu page. I updated with the SD card method. Big big bug! Anybody the same?

The new one, did not test video only high speed burst with the new 100-400, with the old battery and old firmware already an issue with almost complete charged battery, did test around 50%.

Thank you. Not sure if that's the same as the SL2 SL2-S will not allow 4K recording or Continuous-High Speed when the battery drops to below 20% same for the old and new battery prior to v5.2.0 using Leica SL lenses, but possibly related to your fix. Happy to hear your scenario is now corrected 👍🏼 I just need to wait until I draw down the battery power before I retest my concern on v5.2.0. Thanks again.

Do you have the camera set to sleep after some period of time/no use and still the camera searches for focus point? I seem to set my camera back to AFS frequently so maybe I just haven't noticed if I leave it on iAF or AFC, but will check it out.

@RBB

I wrote too soon, I found a nearly depleted original SL2 battery in my bag. So far seems like AFC at Continuous-High Speed with SL 50/2 APO is cracking away below 20% battery 🤩 I did however see the warning message when the battery draws to about 10% or less ( with the original battery). So with the old battery, with this initial test seems we may have more time to shoot Continuous-High Speed on the battery at least a little more... estimating about 10 % + more. *FWIW using a Sony Tough 128GB UHS-II card for this test

Edit: I let the camera rest for a few minutes maybe even turned it off while I wrote this comment and then tried again, same battery at 5-10% --I shot another short burst series of Continuous-High Speed frames until I see another warning message.Battery is now at maybe less than 5-10%.

Now I need to do similar test with the new battery.

Hi Jason. I just tested my Silver SL2 with the 5.2.0 update and the iAF and AFc settings. I had the 24-70 Elmarit-SL mounted and the AF operation was normal. The only noise I heard was the regular ibis operation as I was moving the camera around. Does the motor noise also happen when you are in AFs?

Did you turn off "Prefocus" in the Focusing>AF Setup submenu?

If I recall correctly you don't get the burst shooting alert with Leica Lenses, I was only getting it Canon lenses with an adapter or sigma.

I keep my batteries charged, otherwise, I would do the test.

I can confirm I experienced many times with SL2 + SL APO lenses 35, 50 and 90 lenses when the battery depleted to about 20%. It's always been this problem since I purchased the camera and Leica lenses. Eventually I just got used to changing out the battery if I was near 20% depletion and I needed to shoot AFC at Continuous-High Speed. But even so this 20% battery power issues tripped me up at a few events. I eventually purchased a Leica battery grip which helped a lot, but not something I want to carry around often so I sold the grip and went back to juggling batteries. I am very happy to see some power management progress here w/ ver 5.2.0, even with the old/original battery. I think this is big news...this problem has been around since 2019. Not 0% but looks like I can deplete the old battery now to about 10% or a bit below before I see the warning which got me an additional 139 full-size DNG files when testing --but hard to be specific with no battery percentage display.

Let me know what you find with the new battery as It's going to be a while before I deplete the new battery to 20% level for testing.

correct, this was with the Panasonic 70-200 f/2.8, see battery level

The "Battery Power not sufficient " problem is with Leica lenses too. At least with my three SL APO primes. But seems non-Leica brand lenses the problem occurred much before 20% battery depletion. I don't have any non-Leica L-Mount lenses to see for myself.

Few months back, I posted an update when I tested the new Q3 battery in my SL2 prior to v5.2.0 and using my three Leica APO primes. Results remained the same with the new Q3 battery with warning message showing up at about 20% battery depletion. See topic here along my previous update here. This test was carried out using my Leica APO lenses.

The good news with v5.2.0 again as I posted above, I can now shoot High Speed Continuous through to about 10% ish battery depletion with the old battery before I see the warning. I've not had a chance to test this with the new Q3 battery.

Once I deplete my batteries again, I will post a photo that clearly show the SL2 + one of my Leica APO lens and now with v5.2.0 the "Battery Power not sufficient" warning message at about 10% or a bit less of battery power.
