I purchased a D-Lux 7 this week via the internet. It's from an Authorised Retailer and when I called the store to check availability, I specifically asked if it had any dust in the lens barrel. I was told it's brand new, and had been on display for three days at that point. Well it arrived and looked like this...

Disappointing to say the least, but the dealer has been happy to help, so for now I'm not complaining about their service in particular.

However I then opened the packaging further and I found this packet, with what looks like a synthetic/rubber seal inside it. I've only ever seen this when I've bought a used camera and it's been opened for cleaning etc. If you bought your D-Lux 7 new, did you receive one of these seals? I guess I'm trying to determine if this camera truly is brand new because my feeling so far is that there's something not quite right.

Thanks in advance

The leash is a useful thing.  My type 109 has one on since day one. My wife's 7 has the auto lens cover which I would get.  Neither of ours came with any dust, though. Maybe your's was put together at the hight of an allergy season?  :)  I'd get it replaced or fixed, the D-:Lux is a terrific camera that will serve you well. I also M 10, M 10 Mono and SL2, but I will always have my D-Lux at hand.

I’ve been looking for the D-lux 7 as an easy intro to Leica-world and found and ordered one today. Internet of course, I’m on an island the forum software hasn’t heard of. I’m hoping it’s problem-free. Fingers crossed. 🫣

I've now found the "seal" is actually a leash for the lens cap lol. I'm still amazed at the amount of dust though.

Hey w44neg!

I do not have the D Lux, but the X1. To protect the lens from dust, I bought a tube and a filterglas. I guess such a combination could help you too.
