4 stops. 3 in very bright sun at f1.7 won’t work… or no ND and stop down?

What do you have against the electric shutter? Slow readout?

Personally I can’t think of one wide open shot in full sun I have taken in 200,000 images that I looked at more than once

F1,7 1/16000

F0,95 1/16000

Depends on the style and is less technical…..

For me a short lens is a waste of weight and money, if it is not used wide open most of the time…

NICE IMAGE

The shot above looks like the central blur is much stronger than the top and top right, looks like the blue has been accentuated.

I like the top image, looks nice.

I totally disagree about shooting wide open all the time. There is a time and place for it. I do mostly landscape photography, and shoot wide open 1/1000 images. However with a Q that you increase, but would rarely if ever be at F1.7. You're wasting image sharpness at F1.7, F2/2.8 with some foreground out of focus will give you more or less the safe effect with just better resolution for the subject.

Every time, when I use my SL-Vario-Elmarit or my 21 mm Elmarit or my Voigtländer Skopar 15 mm, I do so. F2,8, F4, F8, no problem.
But when I „carry“ my noctilux with me, it would be a waste at all, to put it to F8 and perform pixelpeeping and 100%-Sharpness-views in Ligthroom. It is another mission at all.
However I did many shots with F8 in the wilderness of north Sweden with the Q3. But on other locations than wide landscapes I prefer the look of blur and bokeh anywhere in the picture.
My recommendation is the YouTube-Video from Torsten Overgaard: “What is sharpness”. Very interesting for everyone…..

I do agree with a 50 noctilux, you definitely wouldn't want to stop that down, I had one about 5 years ago and shot wide open a lot, god I wish at the time I had the new Visoflex 2.

But I guess, a guy wandering the streets with a Leica and a Not / Summilux vs me walking with a tripod and a pro zoom, really are worlds apart 😆

But for landscapes generally I want a relatively in focus image, unless of course, I want to use shallow DOF foreground, I do use that quite a bit I suppose but its not a mainstay.

Oh Sorry Chris no I meant the other image. It might just be the Spherical blur pattern though.

Ah, the Noctilux is always good for surprises…and this is one of it.
even the 0,95.
Before I had the 1.0, Version IV. This was really weired and special….😀

I totally agree. Landscapes have to be in focus and in most of the cases with deep DOF!
