First focusing went weird and needed constant adjusting -it was on manual- then the zoom ring went floppy and when I got into a spot with more light I found that all external parts had come loose and could be moved around. I can even bend the lens a bit.
wda Posted August 20, 2023 Share #5 Posted August 20, 2023 That's highly unusual, Jaap. Please do report on Leica's response.
LocalHero1953 Posted August 20, 2023 Share #6 Posted August 20, 2023 Weren't those lenses made in Japan? It might be cheaper to buy a new one than pay for the repair.
jaapv Posted August 20, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted August 20, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don’t know; I rather doubt that the repair price will exceed 1780 Euro.
AdHox Posted August 20, 2023 Share #8 Posted August 20, 2023 At least when my 55-135 spontaneously disassembled, it was it was as a result of unintended impact with an asphalt footpath. The local repairer forwarded the remains of the lens to Wetzlar where it was evaluated as unrepairable - as expected - but I was offered a replacement for less than a third of the usual price.
jaapv Posted August 21, 2023 Author Share #9 Posted August 21, 2023 Good to know; this one wasn't dropped as far as I am aware, but it was in the bag, so maybe...
mustafasoleiman Posted August 27, 2023 Share #10 Posted August 27, 2023 Dropped mine last summer and the auto focus broke... sent it in to Leica for repair... they just replaced it with a brand new one boxed et al... Love Leica. a
jaapv Posted September 27, 2023 Author Share #11 Posted September 27, 2023 Well, I got a new one for less than one third of the price. If the initial offer hadn’t landed in my spam folder, the whole operation would have taken less two weeks. On the whole an impeccable experience.

How would you describe the optical quality of the 55-135 at the long end. My CL is my go-anywhere camera. I am pretty much a nature photographer (wildlife and landscapes), but also a nature pattern seeker. I have been pleasantly surprised by the 18-56 VE and am looking for a second lens to fill out the kit. Since I'm not a street shooter, the 18, 23, and 35 would be redundant optic... this leaves the ultra-wide zoom and the telephoto zoom. Because I use a complete Nikon Z-kit, the addition of another Leica lens is more of a luxury than anything else. Do you have any images with the 55-135 that you's care to share? bruce
Le Chef Posted September 27, 2023 Share #13 Posted September 27, 2023 One I found at random shot on the 55-135. It’s a lovely lens but not one I use often. Welcome, dear visitor! Boojay Posted September 27, 2023 Share #14 Posted September 27, 2023 I used to love the lens for candids of the grandkids when they were cute!! Lovely lens, don't have one anymore as I mostly have FF L mount lenses but get tempted often to add one again to use on the FpL. Welcome, dear visitor! They're still cute just a lot bigger and less likely to get caught by my lens these days😀
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I’ll have more time in a few weeks.
