Really enjoying the M10 I bought a year ago, but I do miss the faster start-up time of the M9, lot's of missed street shots because of it.

Agree that if you keep it switched off and want a quick shot you won't get it in time. A big deal if you are used to a film M as well! Its common on many digitals and can be a bit of a pain as I can get the camera to the eye and focussed faster than it will wake up if its been off or asleep.

Some workarounds:

1. Set the auto switch off to 10 minutes and if you're actively shooting keep lightly touching the shutter to keep the camera awake (need a couple of spare batteries)

2. Turn off the auto switch off function 'off' and the camera will be awake all the time it's switched on. Be prepared to have a dead battery if you forget to turn it off when not shooting and probably need 3-4 spares over a day...

I alternate between 1 and 2 depending how actively looking for stuff on the street I am. If I'm out with family and 'may see something' I go for 2 as its likely the camera will be asleep otherwise.

I love my m10 every day more and more. When all other companies come out all new models with more and more bells and whistles, I enjoy only having essentials in my gear. This portrait was taken 7th October 2023 with summicron 50 type 3. 54 years optic and still like new

I can't say I "love" my M10s - I'm in the Don McCullin camp: "I use my camera like I use a toothbrush - it does the job."

My core Leica values are - coincident split-image manual focusing, compact cameras, compact and light-weight lenses (for their aperture and performance), a lens mount that takes vintage Mandler/Canada lenses (love the color rendering/contrast), and a 24x36 sensor (I use wide-angles a lot, and don't want them cropped to something else).

The M10 family ticks all those boxes.

If there is one thing I would like a bit more of, it is higher unbanded ISOs (up to 40000-ish - in color - I do a lot of low-light documentary/photojournalism work) - and the M11 doesn't move that needle significantly. But neither does anything else that matches those "core" values already mentioned.

And the M10 did up the ante over my M9s for higher ISOs, by  at least 2 stops. Plus adding slightly better RF precision/magnification for fast lenses

So where I have invested in Leica's continued existence is: adding an M10-Monochrom (used) and some speedier lenses (also used)**. And getting some of those used lenses 6-bit updated - by Leica. And picking up a used M10-P.

I figure taking used gear out of the marketplace still benefits Leica indirectly - removes competition to new gear, and burnishes the reputation for value-retention. Leica themselves have always said that "the low-cost Leica M is a used Leica-M." And sell used gear themselves (I've bought a few used lenses from Leica Store Miami). The money goes round and round.....

I also figure that Leica gear is relatively cheap - if amortized over 7-10 years (or maybe more).

We'll see what an M12/13 offers. But at this point, my family of M10, M10-P and M10-M share controls and batteries and such - seamlessly. What's not to - well, OK - love? ;)

How about some M10 porn? Or are all M10 variations just look like the Leica web site? Show your stuff. BTW I am upgrading my M-P 240 to an M10. So I have a vested interest.

Since you asked…

Got mine in 2024 and loving the sh*t out of this camera, especially when paired with the Elmarit 28. Would've liked the quieter shutter but this is not too bad at all (I don't like turning heads with the shutter sound in public).

As a photography enthusiast (formerly a Fujifilm evangelist), owning a Leica has always been a dream. It’s really hard to justify the price until I hold it in my hand. Then it became even harder because I need to be creatively able to explain my justification to my wife, who knows nothing about photography.

Earlier this year, I decided to buy the TL2 with Summilux-TL 1:1.4/35mm ASPH. Amazing body and lens, super intuitive user interface. But a bit slow autofocus, especially in low-light situations, and the manual focusing experience is lacking. I don’t like manual focusing by wire.

Then I was contemplating between the M-P (Typ240) and the M10-P. I prefer not to have the red dot logo as it becomes a distraction (I like to take candid photos and people do recognize the red dot).

After trying it for hours (going to the store several days a week), the silver chrome M10-P is my choice.

I love it. Now about the wife…

count me as another happy M10 owner. Original camera was a manual focus Canon AE1 over 45 years ago. Since then have only shot AF, most recently on my Q3. Sold it and got a mint condition M10. It's been a steep learning curve but I love the images it produces more than any other camera I've owned.

The great thing about the M10-R is that is doesn't freeze, can be used all day, every day without a glitch, and is capable of taking excellent pictures.  I don't go above 64000 (don't need to) and clients and I have been consistently happy with results.  What's not to like!  This is the M in working mode with Summicron M 35 Asph. So glad I didn't jump to M11 despite the whistles and bells...
