Dave in Wales Posted August 15, 2023 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the Nikon SB-27 flash compatible with the SL2-S. I've been offered one and would hate to damage the cameras electrics. https://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf4/flash/SB27/index.htm TIA Edited August 15, 2023 by Dave in Wales
Advertisement Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 Hi Dave in Wales, Take a look here SL2-S compatible with Nikon Speedlight SB-27. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bherman01545 Posted August 16, 2023 Share #2 Posted August 16, 2023 Unless the SB-27 has a high flash trigger voltage (which I highly doubt) there is nothing that will damage the camera's electronics. Even if the Nikon pin configuration is the same or similar to Leica's, it is highly unlikely that you can use the flash in TTL mode. Only fully manual or automatic modes would be possible. jaapv Posted August 17, 2023 Share #5 Posted August 17, 2023 For the Leica M series Leica has confirmed that the sync electronics are safe to use up to 600V. It is extremely unlikely that the SL series has a lesser specification. If you want to be 100% sure just ask Leica. The Nikon SB 27 has a 5V trigger voltage. Only some ancient flashes and exotic brands have a high trigger voltage. https://www.botzilla.com/page/strobeVolts.html
Mute-on Posted August 17, 2023 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2023 I have tested a Nikon SB-30 with a Leica M262 with no ill effects. In fact, the ability to trigger flash at a lower sync speed than thedefault 1/180 lends excellent flexibility for flash fill control.
Photoworks Posted August 17, 2023 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) The SB-27 works fine on SL2 and M11 in M and A modes but is not my favorite flash for bounce flash photography. I think the SB-24 or 25 are more useful.
