Kiwimac Posted August 14, 2023 Share #21 Posted August 14, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use it particularly when light falls or when the subject is difficult to distinguish. I mostly don’t but it’s useful when you need it.
Advertisement Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Hi Kiwimac, Take a look here Curious. Who uses a Visoflex 2... and why?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
EJS73 Posted August 14, 2023 Share #22 Posted August 14, 2023 I had one, sold it, but then purchased another because I’m using the 135 a lot more and RF focusing becomes hard work at that focal length. My opinion of the visoflex2 has not changed: it is clunky when mounted on the m11, the picture quality is average at best (not a patch on the SL2s, OM1 or Z8/9). For focusing the 135, the refresh rate isn’t fast enough to cope with shaky hands.
TheEyesHaveIt Posted August 17, 2023 Share #23 Posted August 17, 2023 I bought it for macro stuff - don't use it much. I really wish it had a higher power zoom (I think it goes to 6x, but would love a 10x - same goes for the M11 LCD). Would help nailing focus.
mekener Posted August 18, 2023 Share #24 Posted August 18, 2023 I use it with my 90mm.
LanceR Posted August 21, 2023 Share #25 Posted August 21, 2023 I use it for 75mm+, macro, and some still life, where I want critical focus, especially in an area that is not near the center of the frame. I would estimate that less than 5% of my shots are with the VisoFlex 2, but for me it as an advantage in those scenarios. If I was using the VisioFlex 2 for 25% or more of my shots, I would consider a different camera system or at least consider a second camera system to fulfill those needs. NaAn Posted October 9, 2023 Share #26 Posted October 9, 2023 I use for M11 monochrome, mainly 35mm. Found it very helpful because it has no color to be sure of my picking points.
la1402 Posted October 9, 2023 Share #27 Posted October 9, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use it with my SEM21 for framing, my 90 Elmarit for precise focussing, and like to have it with 35/50mm when focussing at 1.4 at short distances. But independt of that, I prefer to leave it off as it is clunky.
DrM Posted October 12, 2023 Share #28 Posted October 12, 2023 I use it for exact framing, SEM21 and the Noctilux. Plus in case it is really dark (ISO50000, f0.95,1/8s, or around -6 EV100) to see the subject at all 😄
rramesh Posted October 13, 2023 Share #29 Posted October 13, 2023 A Visoflex comes in really handy for accurate framing and for shooting in difficult angles e.g. camera point up to sky or from low levels.
Jürgen Posted October 13, 2023 Share #30 Posted October 13, 2023 I use the Visoflex 2 because I apply often the Leica perspective control for the best framing of my pictures. Also the new V2 has a very nice design and all data visible for better control. It's a good unit with my M11.
FDS Posted October 13, 2023 Share #31 Posted October 13, 2023 The Visoflex 2 is a big improvement over previous models, thank goodness. I use it with 75, 90, 135 lenses for critical focus especially when shooting wide open and also with 35 APO in close-up range. (The front metal plate fell off but I reattached it using black electrical tape. No big whoop. This phenomenon has been discussed on the forum.) BillCB Posted October 22, 2023 Share #32 Posted October 22, 2023 While I generally focus with the Rf, I frequently use the VF2 for accurate framing - and I use it all the time with the 135mm Apo-telyt. It's also great if you use non-Rf lenses like the Laowas.

While Leica did make the live view feed more accurate with one of the more recent firmware updates, it still doesn't show 100% of the recorded frame. I wanted to use LV via LCD or Visoflex for exact framing purposes but it's still not possible. I think Leica prioritises a small degree of digital stabilisation in their live view on the LCD or Visoflex instead of 100% accurate composition. High_n_Dry Posted November 8, 2023 Share #34 Posted November 8, 2023 I started a studio lighting course and realized that my focus with the 50mm and 90mm was not as great as I thought it was! Although acceptably sharp, when I was shooting wide open, I noticed some softness of the eyes. I tried the 1.4x magnifier and while this was helpful, I was still missing focus on shots. I eventually caved and bought the Visoflex 2. Honestly, after reading the responses on forums, I didn't have high hopes. However after using it, I think it's fantastic. The ability to zoom in and focus makes the hit rate 100% with portraits. I still love the rangefinder for focus, but I think the VF2 just makes the M that much better.
