Tkp Posted August 10, 2023 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am a happy user of the SL2-S with the APO SL90/2.0, but sometimes the 90mm are just too short so that I have to crop quite a bit. Since I take this combination mainly for stage photography, the SL2 with its higher Megapixel does offer the ISO capability that I need, so I am looking at adding a longer lens like the Sigma 135/1.8 Art. In this forum I don't find too many current photos made with the 135, so I am wondering if it is actually a good idea? I read for example of autofocus problems, especially with the SL601. Advertisement Posted August 10, 2023 Posted August 10, 2023 Hi Tkp, Take a look here SL2-S and Sigma 135/1.8 L-Mount?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Printmaker Posted August 11, 2023 Share #2 Posted August 11, 2023 I can’t comment on that lens but I often use a 135 TeleElmar on my SL2S and wish it was both faster and auto focus. The 135/1.8 seems nice. Perfect for the stage and dark venues. I only used Leica M glass on my 601 but shooting a wedding convinced me to get a SL2S and the 28-70, (which is much smaller and lighter than the 24-70 or 24-90.) I currently use two Sigma lenses (28-70 & 100-400) and am really pleased with both. And I plan to add the 105 macro as well as the 20/2 lenses next year. If Leica rebadges Sigma lenses then that’s good enough for me.
profus Posted August 11, 2023 Share #3 Posted August 11, 2023 I have tested Sigma 135/ f1.8 on my SL2 and it was working just fine. No issues whatsoever with autofocus or anything else. At the end I decided to buy Sigma 105/ f1.4 instead but it could have easily been 135...Both lenses are very good 1

gdb Posted August 19, 2023 Share #5 Posted August 19, 2023 Hi TKP, I also enjoy the SL-2 (with the 24-90 zoom) very much, and when I acquired it, I added the Sigma 135/1,8. I am very happy with this lens. It's the best choice for shows, but also for portraiture. When I was a child, my father used to have a Carl Zeiss 135mm on his Jaghee Exalta. I think that there should be a Leica lens with this focal. (Maybe they think that Sigma's is a severe competitor, which is true !) If you don't mind, let me know if you made this choice ! Cheers Gérard

chris_tribble Posted August 25, 2023 Share #7 Posted August 25, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Interesting. I’ve just finished a theatre gig with mostly 35/75 APO on SL2. I really missed 135 prime (though I had the 90-280 in the bag). Any experience / examples of the Sigma 135 on SL?
