Hey, that is funny, my combo is similar: Q3 and SL2S with 50mm, F0,95. It’s perfect for me in a Wotancraft 3,5 Liter-Bag, side by side…

I know it's a completely different direction, but if I'm not shooting any moving subjects, is the M11, a 50 and a 28 with a Visioflex 2 a good alternative to having both the SL2-S and the Q3? I've never shot a rangefinder, and wear glasses. Or am I giving up too much (IBIS, low light performance, obviously autofocus). I use the Voigtlander 15 and 40 1.2, so I'm not a stranger to manual focusing.

I use my APO 75 for portraits, but the Noctilux seems to excel at that with it's own unique rendering. It could replace my 50mm Summilux-SL, 50mm APO Summicron-SL and do most of what I do with my 75mm APO Summicron-SL.
ChrisGA Posted August 18, 2023 Share #24 Posted August 18, 2023 That depends on many factors. For me, M isn’t an alternative because of my glasses. I would say: Try - but the pricetag….😅 perhaps you can rent some equipment? Or: Buy a Q1, try it and sell it. If you go with a Q1, you will love the Q3 even more! But sometimes I use for Portraits the 24-70 Elmarit to be flexible and fast.
Dr. G Posted August 18, 2023 Share #26 Posted August 18, 2023 (edited) I owned a Q2 for a while and sold it. In good light is was a great camera, but low light noise at or above ISO 3200 was too much for me. I've heard the Q3 is much better in this regard. I think I'm really spoiled by the SL2-S and APO Summicron lenses - but the weight of carrying everything, especially while traveling is starting to get old. However, M11 with the 35mm APO is just wonderful for say a long weekend in London, Paris or NYC. Only use the Visoflex 2 with 21mm or 50mm Noctilux and above, 50mm APO f2 just fine but once at 50mm and above under 1.2 gets tricky.
Camaro5 Posted August 18, 2023 Share #29 Posted August 18, 2023 I use a Q2, Q2M, and an SL2-S with various lenses including an SL 35mm APO. For me it's horses for courses and I use them all depending on the situation. I can make excellent prints with all of them although my Canon Pro-300 only goes up to A3+ (13x19). I've had larger ones done by my lab. As for resolution, the SL2-S with a 35 APO in multi-shot mode will give you 96mp images that are sharp and clear. I think people sometimes obsess over megapixels, but I haven't had any issues with the SL-S which is great in low light. Sometimes the AF hunts a little, but only if it's very dark. Most of the time it's been fine. I've thought about upgrading one thing or another, but I don't think there's a camera out there that does everything perfectly, so I'm sticking with what I've got. I've been happy with it and can do just about anything, but sometimes it is tempting to think about other possibilities.

Same opinion: Depending on the area, the Weather-Sealing is very useful…I took the Q3 to northern Sweden and it rained several times. Depending on your financial situation you would not take a M11 out of the bag wile it is raining or even the weather gets better but rest of the raindrops falling from the trees for some time….

Me too, owned a Q2 for several month and took 111 pics with it. However it was not „my“ camera🤷♂️. But bought the Q3 8 weeks ago and took 2000 Pics since today…can’t explain why…several little advantages and some big like ISO-Performance and Tilt-screen… One of the little things: Did you know, that the DNG-Files out of the Q3 are about 10 to 20 MB smaller than the Files from the Q2. This for me is a big advantage. 47 MP and 80 to 90 MP or 60 MP and 65 to 75 MP….don’t know why but it is significant, when you have to handle all the data….
trickness Posted August 20, 2023 Share #32 Posted August 20, 2023 (edited) They are complimentary, not competitive cameras. I just got back from Iceland and would have felt really limited if I only had the Q2M with me (or any Q). I use the SL2 with M glass as I don’t want ANY camera doing the thinking for me. I’m not shooting sports, I use my SL2 fully manual. Autofocus? Who cares. The Q series have a great form factor and I almost always bring mine along (interchangeable batteries 👍🏻) But you can’t mount a Noctilux to it.
