dhsimmonds Posted August 22, 2006 Share #1 Â Posted August 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Whilst I rarely use flash preferring natural light and refelectors, there are times when it is a must. I am sure that this question was explored thoroughly on the old site.........but I didn't have my R9/DMR then! Suggestions with reasons would be gratefully appreciated. Â Cheers, Dave

albertwang Posted August 22, 2006 Share #5 Â Posted August 22, 2006 Metz hammerhead flashes but I prefer the side bracket for studio work whenever I can. Â Very smart with the R8, spot right on!

gdb Posted August 22, 2006 Share #7  Posted August 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Metz 54 MZ-4 with SCA 3502 shoe. But with the DMR, forget the TTL feature: it does not work. But the Auto feature works perfectly.  In fact, the TTL function has been invalidated by Leica. Last september, before the availability of the DMR, I had the opportunity through my dealer to handle a pre-model of this device. The TTL feature used to work, but the results were very bad, probably due to the way light is reflected by the sensor to the meter.  Cheers Gérard
rsolomon Posted August 23, 2006 Share #8 Â Posted August 23, 2006 i use the leica sf20 (a metz product) ... works nicely
harrisfoto Posted August 23, 2006 Share #9 Â Posted August 23, 2006 Vivitar 283 with the VP-1 variable module, or a Quantum qflash set-up Both give great results. I use the flash meter mode on the R8, and then check the curve. I have not used the auto modes on either flash, but assume that they would work. As I understand TTL does not work.
