dchoi12 Posted July 30, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I have cleaned with sensor cleaning swab and blower for a few times but these spots just do not go away or move abit. They are not on the lens for sure. This is a CCD sensor ID 5 (old one) but with the filter of the sensor replaced with corrosive-proof ones. The sensor looks very clean. So are these dust undernealth the filter? or corrosion? or anything else? Thank you! Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted July 30, 2023 Share #2 Posted July 30, 2023 I would start by cleaning the sensor properly. The huge chunk of Christmas Cake on the left does not inspire confidence.

jaapv Posted July 30, 2023 Share #4 Posted July 30, 2023 Of course, with a third party cover glass replacement one can never be sure. Maybe a professional clean to put your mind at rest. Otherwise it may well be dust under the cover glass which would lead to a guarantee claim. BTW you need to defocus tot lens to take such a test shot. Is that a third party job? I believe Leica always replaced both the sensor and cover glass as a complete unit, so if the replacement was done at the factory an old CCD ID means it happened before they had developed the new units - i.e., it is still vulnerable to corrosion. jaapv Posted July 30, 2023 Share #7 Posted July 30, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) That is why I assumed it was third-party. It is some years ago that Leica replaced the last sensor.
dchoi12 Posted July 30, 2023 Author Share #8 Posted July 30, 2023 (edited) Yup third party. Only cover glass was replaced. The yt link below is a demo of how they replace the cover glass. And they said the corrosion issue happens at the cover glass most of the time, that I am not sure... I bought the camera from someone else at a good price, ans i know it is using the old sensor. The seller sincerely showed me the sensor during the trade and it looks crystal clear. The body has very very minor wear and tear only. But now I regret not checking the pictures in PC first... https://youtu.be/r_2y_xrJg6g Edited July 30, 2023 by dchoi12

But as jaapv suggests, a proper clean would be the first thing to try - this could easily be dust on the outer surface of the cover glass.
