petmeiamirish Posted July 29, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Recently, I was loading some film into my Leica R4, and when I tried to advance the film, the take up spool stopped moving. Now it has done this before, over a recent vacation I had, but I was able to fiddle around with it to get it to move, but this time, no amount of persuasion would make it move, or at least advance the film to the next frame. But the strange thing is, when I advance the camera, the shutter still works. Any thoughts or ideas that could remedy this?
Advertisement Posted July 29, 2023 Posted July 29, 2023 Hi petmeiamirish, Take a look here Leica R4 Take Up Spool Not Moving!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
David Weber Posted August 4, 2023 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2023 Sounds like you are doing double exposures all the time. Is the rewind button at bottom plate pressed? This is also the button for double exposures. Normally it pops back after every exposure. Maybe it's jamed?
davidmknoble Posted August 20, 2023 Share #3 Posted August 20, 2023 @petmeiamirish, curious if you got this solved. If not, when you say it stopped moving, does that mean you loaded the film and it advanced a few frames and then stopped moving, or it never loaded the film? Also, to @David Weber‘s point, is the frame counter moving? If not, his suggestion makes a lot of sense. It is also possible the gear mechanism for the spool / counter is broken, but still resetting the shutter.
