@Neongrain,

The two lenses are not easily "seen" differences with other's images.

I was happy user of 35mm IV on film for decades, then when the asph. 2/35 was launched, I tried it and fell in love, I bought the three types of available asph. (black, silver, titanium coated)...use them a while to "see" that those are good lenses but "not for me" anymore, not in optical quality, I sold them quickly to users who needed them.

We need to try out ourselves.

Just buy one, use it a while then decide as educated user.

35mm on M are so nice to hesitate.

I use many lenses on M, maybe the most I do own is 35mm lenses, neither one is "perfect" anyway.

Do you use the v4 now again?

I totally agree with you to try out both to see whoch will suit me more. Actually I am in the position to get each one for the same price so thats why I am torn so much between the two... Size vs. Optical Performance, which I have to test on film to see if there is a visible difference or not and at which f-stop.

I already onw the Zeiss Biogon 35mm 2.8 which I love but it has more of a typical Zeiss look and "only" 2.8 so maybe I already have a sharp enough lens and shpuld opt more for the size of the V4

Do you have some example pictures on film for both lenses? And hwo would you rate both in terms of sharpness? Is there a visible difference on film?

You might have a look at the flickr groups for these lenses:

Note that some of the most recent ASPH images were taken with the ASPH v2, so it might be easiest to start at the other end of the photo pool (currently p396) where there are many pre-2015 images that can only have been shot with the ASPH v1. Ignore flickr's terrible previews in the 'Photos' tab and click on the individual images to see the originals. This is a lens that doesn't get on well with thick sensor stacks like those in various Sony cameras, so look out for pictures taken on Leica digitals and film scans (e.g. Noritsu).

I don't have the Summicron IV so I can't give you a comparison, but my ASPH v1 is (of course) very sharp on film and I have no problem with the bokeh.

Less and less,

as said, I don't use the 2/35 "asph" (which I loved and sold) neither

...

other choices are funnier on film or sensor

As long as you remain a non-boring photographer, the asph will provide you with decades of non-boring images on colour or black and white film.

....

Fully agree with you...and the same applies to the v4 🙂

What do you think of that Hexanon 35?

Very good as usual.

A bit bigger than I would like comparing to the tiny Canon 2/35 ( E40 filters is not fair ).

Hiding more the M's VF and taking same E46 filters as some Leica lenses that  I use, this last feature is a must when I don't carry the 1.4/35 asph.

Just a bit curious, what lens is the black one in the middle, with the scalloped focus ring?

Thanks! I wish Leica had a 35mm lens with such a focus ring.
