YvonneS Posted July 28, 2023 Share #1  Posted July 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since three weeks I travel around with the Leica Q3 and I love it a lot….. But I do have a question, maybe someone can explain or knows a solution? When I convert my jpg (largest size) to a B&W profile within Lightroom, I see strange lines/blocks in the sky. In this example you can see it on the right upper corner (lines in the white clouds) On another photo I can see little blocks.. On this site I have to upload a smaller size jpg, but I can see it in the large converted version too. I do my editing on my Ipad, so when, after my travels, I am at home, I ‘ll have a look on my computer too. Could it have to do with the screen capability of my Ipad? Or is there another reason? Hope to hear from your experiences! Thanks! Welcome, dear visitor! hedleyw Posted July 28, 2023 Share #2  Posted July 28, 2023 (edited) It looks like jpg compression artifacts, so unrelated to your iPad. As jpg is an 8 bit format it can only support 256 colours so tonal gradation lines can appear. It’s probably visible in the colour version with closer inspection or increasing contrast in the sky. You could avoid it by shooting raw and doing your Lightroom black and white conversion on that before saving as a jpg? Alternatively set the Q3 to one of the mono styles? If you then shoot raw + jpg you have the best of both worlds as your raw will retain all the colour information. WeiterWinkel Posted July 29, 2023 Share #4  Posted July 29, 2023 As you have Lightroom, try taking your pictures in DNG-format. That gives you much more headroom for b&w conversion. You can start with several Lightroom presets. (Screenshot german Lightroom Classic 12.4) Welcome, dear visitor!
