I have an M10-r that's about 1.5 years old, and hasn't seen a lot of use until the last few weeks.  I've noticed when the camera is warm (either from keeping it close to my body or higher ambient temps, the baseplate at the end where the twist lock is moves forward and backwards to the point of distractions.  Suggestions?  I took it to the Leica store, and they said it had to go to NJ, which for that model is a 10-12 week turn around.  Fix is probably 15 min, so unwilling to send it in as it's my only camera.  Anyone else experience this, and if so, how did you resolve?  Tried another baseplate in the store, but it didn't resolve the issue.  Thanks in advance for any insights.

Why not call 'NJ' and ask. I don't think I would try any adjustment on a camera of that value unless very simple and foolproof.

alternatively you can get a grip with baseplate, like this one I got
https://www.kamerakraft.com/product-page/kamerakraft-lm10grip-v2-0

super good looking and functioning. Since then now the baseplate is sitting there collecting dust.

I chatted with them via email, and they said send it it.  The Leica dealer provided the lead time.  I looked at the mechanism and can't figure out what adjustment is necessary.   I read of people adjusting their rangefinder mechanisms, and this seems less risky.  But I'm clearly not smart enough to pull it off, thus the posting to see if anyone else has solved it.  I'll live with it for now, and just before the warranty is over will send it in to be resolved.

I'm not a fan of grips, but a third party baseplate is an excellent suggestion (thanks!).  I'll look around and see if there's something I might be able to make work.

I don't use a baseplate. Get a half-case for M10 that has a bottom flap to access the battery & SD card and leave the baseplate home. These cases have a magnet to hold the flap closed, and that also tells the M10 that the baseplate is in place. You can go expensive or eBay to find such half cases. (I didn't go expensive.)

The lead time is 7 months at the moment if the camera goes to Wetzlar.

The dealer had a list of all camera models and lead times for each.  The M10R was listed at 8-10 weeks.  Perhaps 7 months is the M11 with its multitude of problems?  I have no idea, you could certainly be right.  It's just astonishing that instead of figuring out a way to have owners send there cameras in something like 2 weeks ahead of scheduled repair, you have to ship it over and have it sit on a shelf for months before anyone even looks at it.

Is it still under warranty? Then off to Leica it should go. Otherwise, DAG it is. I'll never have Leica work on another non-warranty/non-electronic (DAG can't do sensors, motherboards etc etc) item if possible. My black paint M10-R went off to Leica recently for non-responsive back buttons in the heat. I doubt it'll be a 2 month turnaround, but also doubt seven months. Thankfully I have an M10M and M9 to bide me over.

If not very expensive, I’ll still use DAG even if under warranty.  Work is better, and turnaround is faster. Life’s too short.

Agreed - I've had him adjust a new lens rather than hassle with warranty returns.

Leica NJ tried in 2013 to fix the sticky focus action on my 50 Summilux ASPH, but the technician told me by phone that he could not improve it.  I sent it to DAG afterwards and he had it back to me in under 2 weeks, focusing smoothly… for 90 bucks, including shipping.  I haven’t used NJ service since.  And I stick with dealers that also avoid NJ and try to expedite service to Wetzlar (or offer loaner/replacement) if needed.

As noted in the linked thread the locking mechanism is simple an fully exposed once the battery is removed. On a standard M10 it looks like this at the camera body:

You already tried another baseplate, so the problem should be in the assembly shown. The revolving metal sheet in the baseplate should go into this groove with the bent tip catching the metal spring.

Before sending it in for service I would at least check for damages or missing parts and that the screws are tight.
