Don Morley Posted July 12, 2023 Author Share #21 Posted July 12, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello Boojay, It is hard to describe and curious rather than important, but what happens with my 55-135 on the Pan S5 is it shows on the screen as being manual focus with all that entails, meaning with enlarged AF section and Red Focus peaking even if I do not want either, yet it is also still auto focusing. This was more of a annoyance than a problem, but one which as said before got me wondering if I had missed a Firmware update for that lens. All my other Leica L mount lenses work as should do, and so do my various Sigma and Panasonic L mount lenses. Very curious? And of course I checked the Firmware on the 55-135 which according to all of my L mount cameras is 1.1.

I had wondered about a menu setting but then your other lenses don't behave in the same way so only thing I can think is maybe the electrical contacts need cleaning as the body is not reading the lens info correctly, worth a try anyway. I'm not sure if the 55-135 has had a firmware update over 1:1 and of course on the CL you can never see what the lens firmware is.. only the body version. As TL lens firmware is updated through the body you would think the lens would be at the latest version anyway if your CL is on firmware version 4.1 When I check on the Pan S52 the lens firmware shows 35TL version 1.1. and 18TL version 1. Let us know if anything changes, good luck.

ctle Posted July 14, 2023 Share #24 Posted July 14, 2023 The current TL lens firmware version is 2.0 which was released on 21 March 2023 according to this French website FIRMWARE LEICA TL LENS
Don Morley Posted July 15, 2023 Author Share #25 Posted July 15, 2023 Wonderful news thank you, even though I cannot read French I at least now know for sure my lens(s) are still on old Firmware settings, I also know none of my cameras will update them automatically despite assurances from Jaap, and so I now have to work out how to read the info in English and then do the download. ctle Posted July 15, 2023 Share #26 Posted July 15, 2023 To download the firmware, click on the floppy disk icon under Téléchargement
Boojay Posted July 15, 2023 Share #27 Posted July 15, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) So there are firmware updates available for Leica TL Lenses from TousLesDrivers.com that Leica themselves do not show on their website, can I ask @ctle, have you downloaded these and tried your lenses because honestly I'm not sure I would be comfortable doing that.

No I haven't done that as my TL 18-56 lens was updated automatically to version 2.0 Welcome, dear visitor! ctle Posted July 17, 2023 Share #29 Posted July 17, 2023 The firmware 2.0 (TLLens02.plf) is on Leica Australia website but when trying to download, it failed with the error: "Failed - Forbidden" https://leica-camera.com/en-AU/photography/cameras/cl-tl/cl-black/firmware
Don Morley Posted July 19, 2023 Author Share #30 Posted July 19, 2023 Sorry to say this remains a complete mystery to ma as despite what Jaap and others have said my lenses do not update the firmware from the existing 1.1 to 2.00 automatically or manually and none of the Non Leica downloads mentioned above work either. I have tried to update my three Leica T,TL,TL2, CL lenses L mount lenses with them fitted to my CL and also my SL. Then gone into Lens Firmware, pressed update and all that then comes up is ' Firmware update not found on SD Card. This message is of course doubly infuriating as I obviously know there is nothing on the card because I cannot find anything on any of Leica's web sites to download onto it. Ugh! So much for Leica's (Lack Off) support. Don
tommonego@gmail.com Posted July 19, 2023 Share #31 Posted July 19, 2023 I understand that for the SL one might need a firmware upgrade. For the CL only usage does the upgrade make any lens function improvements? Is it possible to get this upgrade through installing the camera firmware? My current firmware is camera 4.1 and lens 1.1. Don Morley Posted July 19, 2023 Author Share #32 Posted July 19, 2023 Sorry but I think you are wrong on this, several others have already posted saying the CL lenses should be updated to 2.0, my lens back caps even say a update is required and to go to on the web to leica-camera.com but when I do I get a message saying 'Banned from this site' Frankly I think Leica have, and are letting we CL System buyers down very badly. But thanks for the reply it is appreciated. Don
tommonego@gmail.com Posted July 19, 2023 Share #33 Posted July 19, 2023 Don, I ended up going to the French site, at the bottom of the page there is an English text link. Down loaded from there updated my 2 TL lenses. After I did my last post I thought I should try at least. As noted nothing on the Australian site. I could send you the file. Le Chef Posted July 20, 2023 Share #35 Posted July 20, 2023 And Tom, could you do the same for me: le_chef@me.com Many thanks!
Don Morley Posted July 20, 2023 Author Share #36 Posted July 20, 2023 As a update I have now been told by Leica Wetzlar that Jaap is right so if the camera firmware is 4.1 the lens firmware should update automatically as soon as any of the T,TL,TL2, CL lenses are used. However my camera is on 4.1, but as said here from the start, my lenses (And as we now know lots of other owners CLs) will not update and Leica say they cannot help any further or offer any options. they say It must be a service issue, which I assume means sending the camera cack to them, which I do not wish to do. What I have therefore asked is OK, would my lenses update automatically if I were able to try them on someone else's CL Camera body? Or does it have to be done on the specific body they will mostly be used on? As yet I do not have a answer to that, but I will post it if I get one. Le Chef Posted July 20, 2023 Share #37 Posted July 20, 2023 (edited) Which doesn’t make sense if you can update the lens firmware from the French site. Sounds like Leica committing to continue their “support” for the CL.. Addendum: I just tried downloading from the TLD site and my computer and antivirus software warned me that the download contained a Trojan Horse, so backed out of that quickly… Edited July 20, 2023 by Le Chef

Don Morley Posted July 20, 2023 Author Share #39 Posted July 20, 2023 Hi Tom (and all who have replied). Thanks for trying to help, and in fact actually helping several people to update which is brilliant, but sadly it did not work at all for me. Yes I downloaded the file, transferred it to a formatted memory card, made sure I had a fully charged battery etc, but although the card clearly had the content my camera simply said 'Nothing on the card' so I failed. Think I will give up now, but many thanks for trying to help me. Best wishes, Don
Don Morley Posted July 20, 2023 Author Share #40 Posted July 20, 2023 Just when I decided all had failed Leica sent me a link which has worked - Thanks everyone. Don https://leica-camera.com/sites/default/files/2021-12/CL___41_.lfu
