Hi,

Still learning and enjoying my Leica M11 Monochrome. I understood it is possible to charge the battery in camera with a power bank, but I am a bit confused. In the manual is says to switch off the camera but that way the charging process doesn't initiate. I have to switch on the camera than wait for the green light to start blinking and than if I switch off the camera the charging process works. Is this normal? Do you also have this experience? Do I need a special power bank? I use a Anker 5V. Thanks

Yes, this is normal - a bug from the beginning of the M11 that Leica never eliminated.

And no, no specific power bank is needed.

Hi elmars, i found that a more powerful say above 5v 2A, will always initiate the charging automatically

Hence i always use my ipad charger otherwise, i have to turn on to initiate, but i might be wrong

this could be a bug which i believe easily sorted out in firmware

I guess so too, because in the Q3 it is just plug and charge, no matter if the camera is on or off. But Leica does nothing at the M11 though many users are irritated.

Always?  I ask because my M11 sometimes is sometimes just plug and charge.  Other times seems to need power to be toggled on and off to kick things off.  I'm using the same charger in both cases, so the conjecture of a needed voltage/current doesn't fit my case.   FWIW I use the same USB-C power supply and cable used to charge my iPad.

This is mostly a non-issue for me.  I plug the camera in when necessary.  If I don't see the charge light I turn the camera on.  The charge light comes on and I turn the camera off.  Takes maybe 15 seconds.

It's not a big problem. But you expect the battery to charge when you plug the cable in - whether the camera is on or off. It's like that with every other device I know (including the Q3). That's why with the M11, many people are irritated and wonder if their camera is broken.
