I mentioned in my reply (some time ago) that I would probably reshoot this concept although your idea of cropping without the rock could work if the image has enough in it for that. In retrospect, I have applied an impression to the image which may have been too much for the rock, this time. The idea was catching the light "clipping" the foreground reef/rock and the top of the wave. I was attempting to replicate the shape of the rock in the waveform.
