edstock Posted July 1, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wondering about opinions of the R 50 f1.4 with retractable hood. I want the speed it will give me. At present the fastest R lens I own is f2.8.
Advertisement Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Hi edstock, Take a look here Leica R Summilux 50 f1.4. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LeicaR10 Posted July 1, 2023 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2023 Edstock, When I owned the lens years ago, it was a stellar performer. Here is a link that will give you an idea how it should perform using different cameras. r/ Mark Try: https://onfotolife.com/lens_sample_photos?lens_id=376&page=1&focal_min=0&focal_max=800&aperture_min=0&aperture_max=32
Sandokan Posted July 1, 2023 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2023 There are two versions, the one with 55mm filter thread and the newer one with 60mm. The latter is as good as the M50 aspherical. I like both.
AZN Posted July 1, 2023 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2023 With an R lens mount adapter to either L or Sony E, the 50mm E60 version works out to be pretty large. May I recommend the Summicron-R 50mm instead. You can still shoot at f2 if you want. The M-mout Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f1.2 is even more compact, even including the relevant lens mount adapter. The above assumes you want to shoot digital of course. BTW I own and use all these lenses, with the R’s being ROM versions.

Probably the most expensive R lens at the moment, except for the tele module system Edited July 1, 2023 by otto.f
OR120 Posted July 1, 2023 Share #6 Posted July 1, 2023 I vote for the R 50 Lux e-60. I've been a Summilux guy my entire Leica life. Currently using all my Leica glass on SL2-S. Could not be happier. 80 Lux also one of my most used. I'm sure any lens you select will be fine. Enjoy! Here's two (low rez) shots with the R 50 Lux e-60: Welcome, dear visitor! My two R bodies are R3MOT and R7. even better - I used the R3 and R4 for several years - again Lux lenses always in the mix for me - my longest running Leica film cameras - Leicaflex SL2 mot (had to lose the motor it was just to much) and Leica M5 - My M5 has always been my best and most used Leica film camera. Three lug - black. Enjoy Edited July 2, 2023 by OR120
Huss Posted July 12, 2023 Share #9 Posted July 12, 2023 I bought the E55 version over the E60, because even though the common wisdom is the E60 is better, I could not tell any difference in staring at photos taken by both until I went cross-eyed. I only use it on film. I also have the Summicron 50 ROM, which is very nice but does not have 1.4. All below on film with my R9, Lux 50 1.4 and C200 Welcome, dear visitor! It's often the case that there is little practical difference in the latest new-and-improved lenses, and I find I'm enjoying my lenses from the 1970s more. I never found an E60 version to try, but the E55 is certainly among the top 1.4 lenses of its era. I once shot some comparisons of SLR 50 1.4 lenses on a Sony A7 with various adapters (Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Minolta, etc. and Leica R). The E55 R lens (at 1.4) "clearly" stood apart from the rest. Just last week I put it on my R8 to shoot a roll of film again. I'll admit I usually use a Pentax MX for SLR film use, but the R8 is part of my physical fitness program, along with a Pentax 6x7.
