unxsr Posted June 29, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, first post here but a long time reader. I was hoping to get some help deciding if I should keep my M10 or sell. I love my M10. However I use my TL2 daily with a 18mm, and sometimes use it with my M-mount lenses: 28mm Elmarit and 35mm Summicron. Love everything about the M10 except one thing: the weight. This is the reason I tend to use my TL2 more often and even considering selling the camera I love. If I sell the M10, I can still use my M glasses with the TL2 yet I would be losing the full frame and rangefinder experience. I also have a M6 that I can still use my lenses with, but that said I haven’t shot film in such a long time due to its price (which is the reason I got the M10 at the first place). I’ve tried Sony, Canon and Fuji but sold it all to be where I’m at right now. This is what I currently own. M10 - Digital, M-mount TL2 - Digital, L-mount (APS-C) with 18mm & M Adapter M6 - Film, M-mount 28 Elmarit 35 Summicron I keep going back and forth on this so any help would be great. Thanks in advance! Edited June 29, 2023 by unxsr Typo

jaapv Posted June 29, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 29, 2023 Your decision. Of course your gear should match your use but do consider that your interest and use may shift over time.
jaapv Posted June 29, 2023 Share #3 Posted June 29, 2023 As an example, I shifted to CL from M240 because of the weight and had a TL/18 as carry around as well. Now my daily combo is SL 36/70 R and iPhone13 Pro. Go figure.

If I did sell the M10, I was actually thinking maybe getting a SL down the line since I already own the adapter but haven't done research yet. How is the weight of the SL compared to the M10? erl Posted June 29, 2023 Share #5 Posted June 29, 2023 How you carry your camera is a big influence on how the weight affects you. I spent a lifetime carrying and shooting a very extensive Hasselblad kit. Compared to its competitors, it is light. Compared to any Leica, it is heavy. IOW, everything is relative. Currently the M10 is my mainstream camera. Sometimes I use a wrist strap, sometimes a small bag, othertimes I use a Peak Design neck strap, but always use it across my body. I find the latter is very comfortable and convenient. The limitation can be wanting to carry other lenses as well. I use belt pouches for that usually. Even with a 'heavy' Noctilux fitted, the M10 is comfortable to carry on the M10 (or any other M) with Peak Design strap for extended times. There are other lighter cameras, but they all have their downsides. Ultimately only you can decide what works for you, but IMO the M10 is a damn good all rounder.
jaapv Posted June 29, 2023 Share #6 Posted June 29, 2023 An SL especially with L or R lenses is simply heavy. But I carry it on a diagonal strap.
dpitt Posted June 29, 2023 Share #7 Posted June 29, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently bought the TL2 in the hope to replace my trusted X2 that I use as a 'go everywhere' camera. It is light and so compact I can carry it in a simple handbag without noticing it (400g.) Now, I am very pleased with the quality of the TL2, and it is quite compact with a small 28 or 35 mm M lens mounted. But it still is a lot harder to carry around (680 g, with voigt color skopar) and larger in all dimensions, so it really is not going to replace my X2. Even the EVF is a bit larger than the EVF2 on the X2. The M9 with a small lens is actually easier to carry in a small bag, and it is only 585 g. The weight is only about 200g heavier, but the more compact dimensions of the M9 compensate a lot. If you buy a Elmarit F3.5 collapsible (LTM) your combo can be as light as 800g. in total... For me, the way I carry my camera, makes the M9 equal to the TL2 (certainly if you leave the EVF mounted.). The winners are my X2 and then my iPhone Pro as last resort.
Chris W Posted June 29, 2023 Share #8 Posted June 29, 2023 The key aspect of an M is the rangefinder. If you sell the M10 you are moving out of the rangefinder experience (except for your M6). I had a CL for a while, it was fine, but not an M experience. I had an SL, hated it. I wasn't blown away by the image quality and found it bulky and heavy to carry around. I don't find the M bodies to be particularly heavy or bulky.
wda Posted June 29, 2023 Share #9 Posted June 29, 2023 (edited) Analyse the usage of your cameras by the number of keepers over time, particularly the last 12 months. If your retained images meet your needs, you have your answer. If weight is your determining consideration, why is the SL being considered? 01maciel Posted June 29, 2023 Share #10 Posted June 29, 2023 It's all a matter of personal preference, of course. I also own a M10 and I wouldn't come to terms with the APS-C size. Never. With this sensor size of the TL2, I would feel that something is not right in the photography world So my advice is stick to your M10. On the other hand I think like Baz Luhrmann in his Sunscreen Song: "Be careful whose advice you buy but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past"

Great point. I was thinking from a price standpoint for the SL. Edited June 29, 2023 by unxsr Format
