On the Q2, you can put the Leica supplied lens cap on top of the lens hood. Presumably, since the Q3 comes with the rectangular lens hood, it has the same lens cap. But if you buy the accessory lens hood, then you will no longer be able to fit the lens cap on top of it, right? From the photos I’ve seen,  the lens hood diameter looks larger than that of the lens cap.

No replies to the above, but I have another question. It looks like the new aftermarket lens hood screws onto the 49mm lens or filter thread, not the outer thread that the rectangular lens hood screws on, is that correct? It seems that the outer thread is 60mm, and there don't seem to be many lens hoods available that size.

I thought it was pretty obvious that the lens cap that ships for the rectangular hood will not fit over the top of the much bigger optional vented round hood.

Regarding screw on Leica hood vs third-party, the Leica hood has a patented design that ensures the hood always stops in the same position when you thread it on. There’s a notch to stop the hood from turning once it is properly aligned. As it is a patented design, you won’t find any non-Leica hood with the same feature.

You are correct.the lens cap that ships with the camera is too small to fit on the accessory round ventilated hood that Leica makes. I am trying to find a solution for this because I still want a cover for the lens hood to protect the opening when it is in my camera bag. There are neoprene lens covers that stretch over the lens and could cover the round accessory hood but I’m not sure what size to buy.

This is the Haoge round lens hood and cap fitted to my Q.  The cap clips inside the hood which has threads (49mm) for filters.  The hood screws onto the outside of the lens, the same as original lens hood.
