DAERASO Posted June 19, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Unfortunately being early to the party has it's cons, like not many third party options for such things. The Leica Half case seems very nice, even though way over my desired price for such item. But being that it's basically the only option at the moment I would consider picking one up. However, there seems to be something odd from the product photos I see. How can you charge the camera through USB? Seems like the case is covering the USB port door completely, if so then that's a deal breaker big time and confuses me very much, why would Leica do such lazy design? Advertisement Posted June 19, 2023 Posted June 19, 2023 Hi DAERASO, Take a look here Q3 Halfcase. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
chetccox Posted June 28, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2023 I received the Leica protector today. All of the camera stores here in the Netherlands advertise it as having access to the usb port and the battery and sd card. The battery is the ONLY access available. Case has to be removed for the other ports. Ridiculous. Here is one of the descriptions from a local Leica dealer: The Leica 19651 Halfcase Q3, leather, in the color black offers optimal protection for the Leica Q3 camera. Available in three attractive colour options (cognac, black and olive green). No tools are required to attach the protector, and all controls and the camera's USB port remain fully accessible. Camera accessories such as a shoulder strap, wrist strap or thumb rest can also be used without restrictions. A cover on the bottom of the protector provides direct access to the battery and memory card. Features of the Leica 19651 Halfcase Q3, leather Halfcase for the Leica Q3 Provides optimal protection Easy to attach Controls and USB port remain accessible Matching leather strap is sold separately Material: leather Color: black Package Contents 1x Leica 19651 Halfcase Q3, leather (black)
kirkmc Posted June 28, 2023 Share #3 Posted June 28, 2023 You have to wonder why they get something like this wrong. Look at the photos on the Leica website, you can see that there's no access to either side, and the only opening on the bottom is on the battery side. I've never bought one of these for any camera before, but I was thinking about it. I'll wait until a third party comes out with something better. chetccox Posted June 28, 2023 Share #4 Posted June 28, 2023 Angelo Pelle has them now but it states the usb port is not available and to get to the sd card you have to undo a screw.
chetccox Posted June 28, 2023 Share #5 Posted June 28, 2023 Even the Official Leica Store says the same thing about the case. Totally false!

chetccox Posted June 28, 2023 Share #7 Posted June 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is, but it is a better alternative to the Leica case. Looks nicer too.
OldMan Posted June 28, 2023 Share #8 Posted June 28, 2023 I have the Leica half case and the charging port is not accessible with it on - although the bottom battery and SD card doors are. However, the screw that attaches the case to the camera has a flip out handle to twist with your fingers, so no coin or separate tool is required. Not as convenient as having access to the USB without removing the case, but honestly it’s not that big a headache. YMMV
chetccox Posted June 28, 2023 Share #9 Posted June 28, 2023 I have the genuine Leica Q3 half case #19653. There is no way to access the sd card without removing the case. It has a tripod socket way over to the left side and it connects only to the half case itself and does not move. There is a solid piece of metal or plastic that obstructs the sd port and it is a fixed piece. Exactly what case do you have that has the sd port available? Loneshooter Posted June 28, 2023 Share #11 Posted June 28, 2023 Just for the thread’s sake: my original Leica halfcase has scratched my brand new Q3 after only 3 days of use. The problem is the inner plastic plate: the fit is few millimeters looser, the camera wobbles and that’s it

You are correct, I misspoke. My apologies. I attempted to edit my post but that option is no longer available. Just to be clear, one cannot access the SD cards when a Q3 is in the Leica half case. Clearly I should drink more coffee in the morning before I post.

I have not had to remove it because I am using the Leica Photos APP via wifi to transfer the few images I have taken so far. It is slower but it allows me to examine what I want to transfer before transferring them. Not ideal but that's what I've been doing the short time I've owned the cam. Where on the Q3 did it get scratched?

If you try and see carefully you’ll see event your Q3 wobbles a little. the scratch is in the lower right end, just in point when the metal match with the plastic lining of the half case

chetccox Posted June 29, 2023 Share #17 Posted June 29, 2023 I removed my Q3 case and I have a small scratch on the lower right front side near the corner. There is a sharp plastic or something on the case in that area. The scratch was 100% not there before. The big problem is how they implemented the tripod socket by making the bottom several mm thicker. The Pelle half case attaches with leather straps that go over the lugs on the top. Much better and thinner but still a compromise. The Leica one is worthless
Jamingman Posted July 1, 2023 Share #18 Posted July 1, 2023 Yep. Mine has the same scratch. Returning. Can’t believe this. Ordered one from ArtisianCraftworks on Etsy. Guy has good stuff. 1
HL99 Posted July 1, 2023 Share #19 Posted July 1, 2023 im still waiting on my Q3 but i've seen some people use this skin as an alternative to a case...seems like an interesting option: https://alphagvrd.com/products/leica-q3-protection-skin-cover-wrap

Also canceled by Etsy order and ordered a halfcase from Arte Di Mano. Had no idea they are pumping out cases already, should have checked. Obertwerth has yet to announce anything but I'm okay paying the premium of Arte.
