Hello all, it has been a while since I've posted on the forum with some gear tests. I finally bit the bullet on the Voigtlander 50mm f1.0 Nokton ASPH lens, and after a few hours of recording in Montreal, I can see myself using this lens more often than not!

Everything recorded in L-Log, 24fps, C4K All-I, Leica's Natural LUT

Such a pleasure pairing this lens with the SL2-S, and ironically seems to fit the SL system more than the M bodies in terms of size. I hope this video is helpful for those interested :)

Aaron, Thanks for posting the video. Informative and enjoyable.

On the subject of Voigtländer…

Do you have any thoughts on how Voigtländer 75 mm / 1:1.5 Nokton aspherical VM might perform with video and SL2. ?

Thanks for the video and comments. I wondered how this 50mm lens would work for video on an SL2-s having used a few other Noktons. In fact, I have the V3 35mm Nokton F1.2 and the 75mm Nokton F1.5 that I have used for video mostly wide open for this purpose. These two seem to have the same color profile and look. I don't notice severe vignetting on either of these lenses, however.

Have you ever used either of those lenses to compare to your Nokton 50mm?

Interesting! Looking forward to see some  finished graded work with this lens. Hope you come back in a few months time after the honeymoon phase and share your thoughts with this lens. Looks promising. Itll be interesting how you'll rig the lens in your setup.

Ahh I’ve had the chance to try the 75 Nokton in store, but not extensively. That is such a great lens from the quick experience I had and was originally on my top picks for that focal range a few years ago. However, I went with the Leica 90 summarit solely for the bit of extended reach. Their size and weight were pretty similar, which is always a big factor in my personal decision-making, but if I had to really prioritize speed, I still think about picking up the 75mm Nokton to this day!

The 35mm Nokton (v3 as well) I have used extensively. I’ve been able to use that lens alone for quite a number of run-and-gun jobs (ie weddings/events) with very satisfying results! Highly highly recommend it. In the video above I mention I had the 35mm nokton, however, I did not mention that I ended up selling it in order to get this 50mm Nokton. I found these focal lengths very similar in practice and figured if I had one lens on, majority of the time it would not benefit me to spend the time switching between the two. Ideally, I’d have both as they are both wonderful in handling and image quality 😅 The main difference, through my quick and unscientific experience so far, is the vignetting on the 50 is more pronounced, and the chromatic aberration on the 35 is more pronounced. But stopping down really adjusts for these on both.

I hope this helps!
