dickgillberg Posted June 13, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 13, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I just begun to load my own film with a bulk film loader and I'm using right now the black plastic film canisters with bayonet lock. Have anyone experienced when hand check their film, that it has been ruined and opened? Thanks, Dick

Thanks, Dick I use the same kind of bulk-loading cassettes with the bayonet lock caps and what I do is put a piece of Sellotape/Scotch tape on the top and bottom of the cassettes to "lock" the bayonet caps in place and so avoid accidental opening of the cassette. You only need a small amount, no need to go completely around.
nitroplait Posted June 13, 2023 Share #3 Posted June 13, 2023 If the view is not obstructed by by film boxes, “hand inspection” is usually just a visual inspection with, perhaps, a swipe. I never experienced they mess around with the contents of the bag. Make sure to use a clear Ziplock bag. I glue a Kodak x-ray/CT warning label on it for good measure. When I travel with that much film, I pull 16 rolls of the stuff out of their boxes and cans, and stuff them into a Tupperware flat that I bought from one of my secretaries about 40 years ago (she was flogging Tupperware on the side). A hand check usually consists of the agent peeling the lid off and doing a visual examination, occasionally a swab for explosives residue.

No boxes or cans of course. I have around 14-15 35mm rolls in a ziplock which also fits into a medium Domke lead bag - in case hand inspection is refused. I have never had hand inspection refused at locations with CT scanners. Edited June 13, 2023 by nitroplait
