I have a T246 and I'm thinking of buying an M11M. I did some in-store testing of one and found that it got unpleasantly (for me) warm, especially under the right hand. Warm enough to cause me to question the purchase.

Now to put the experience in context, I was using it to test several lenses for focus shift and the camera was on continuously with the EVF active for something like 45 minutes. I do use the  EVF a lot in real-world picture taking, but more intermittently, so I'm not sure if my in-store experience is a good predictor of how warm the body gets in actual use.

I would be grateful if those with both a T246 and either an M11 or M11M, especially those who use the EVF a lot, would share their impression of how the cameras compare in this respect. (I notice that in my typical use, my T246 gets a bit warmer under than the right hand, but not enough to bother me.)

I have not owned the type 246 so cannot compare in that regard. I did spend a few hours yesterday shooting the M11M during the Buffalo pride parade. I shot almost exclusively using the rangefinder, consulting the menu and monitoring shots vary occasionally. I have the camera on a strap and use the thumb grip but I did not sense that the camera was warm to the touch. It was a cool, sunny day so I might have expected some warmth from the black camera body absorbing the sun's energy. But I was not aware of it or thought about it at all. I shot 746 exposures (both DNG and medium size jpegs files for each). When finished the camera showed 45% battery life remaining.

It appears that no one else is concerned about whether the M11 or M11M is unpleasantly warm in the hand, but to close the loop I thought I'd mention that I did acquire and M11M, and in actual use, at least the way I tend to use it in the field, it does not get unpleasantly warm. That's probably in part because I typically turn off the camera fairly frequently when I'm out and about, which gives it a chance to cool down a bit. But in my typical I use the EVF all the time, typically focussing with the RF, then bouncing up to the EVF to confirm focus, fine-tune exposure, take, and review, so my use pushes the envelope with respect to body heat more than someone who doesn't use the EVF and keeps live view turned off.

I do notice that when I'm doing things like lens testing, when the camera is on continuously with the EVF active for extended periods of time, it does get a little warmer than my 246 did under similar circumstances, but not enough to concern me even though I'm really sensitive to that.

If you use LV or the EVF and shoot furiously sequence after sequence then the M11 can become hot.

Quite a bit hot. But in normal use, not an issue. I had this the first time happening at a fashion show, and in general when capturing action and looking for that random one good shot out of a sequence.  This with EVF.

Hmm. That would certainly annoy me and would probably be a deal-breaker if I needed to use an M for that sort of thing. As it is, I never do that sort of thing, and if I did, I'd probably use my Sony A7R5 and a Batis 85, which together are almost purpose-built for the application. Thanks for the input. Good to know...
