Advertisement Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 Hi mreddington, Take a look here Notecore travel charger and Q3 battery. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
davidmknoble Posted June 4, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 4, 2023 No, but I still use the M10 / dual charger from nitecore. Every now and then a battery needs charged by the Leica charger first. And all new batteries need charged at least once by the Leica charger before using the nitecore (M system).

I don’t know exactly, but I was told this by two different Leica dealers after the nitecore said my battery was charged, but it was not. I thought I had a faulty battery, but after charging with the Leica charger, the nitecore worked fine on that battery. This was for the M, so I don’t know if the same is true for the Q (I think I had the same issue with the SL nitecore, which I believe would be the same for the Q).
sir_ian Posted June 4, 2023 Share #5 Posted June 4, 2023 i have had a mixed bag with the nitecore charger, I have only charged 1 of my 4 batteries with it and I got it mainly for the USB function .. and I was working in a very extreme area where we had to rely on powerbanks ... it failed me every time sadly I came across this charger, but the arrival time was too long before I return back out on a small assignment. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804725121723.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.1.544acc58giqnnq&algo_pvid=4d0f09fb-435f-4382-9859-d34ad76f1eaf&algo_exp_id=4d0f09fb-435f-4382-9859-d34ad76f1eaf-0&pdp_npi=3%40dis!EUR!20.41!20.41!!!!!%40211bf3f116858940015825956d080f!12000030991247421!sea!US!0&curPageLogUid=V6v2kRB9muPY seems ideal esp being USB and charging 2 batteries
Guest Posted June 4, 2023 Share #6 Posted June 4, 2023 When you spend so much on the camera just use/buy the official batteries and chargers. You know it makes sense!

Used it with the Q2M battery and now with the higher capacity Q3 battery. Seems to work well so far - better than the nitecore that never seemed to fully charge the Q2M battery. I agree, but I used the double charger for the M10 batteries, and it also provided a quality note to let me know how good the battery still was. It has been very useful to plug in overnight and have two batteries ready in the AM.

Paul I've been looking at the single battery charger version of this too. Can you confirm whether it can be charged by a USB-C cable as well as a micro USB? The charger unit has a micro USB input port only - so no, you cannot use a USB-C input cable. Paul

You know it makes sense! it doesn't always make sense and its not that simple. for me I'm a journo I work IN THE FEILD I have 5 batteries, and sometimes I only have a few hours to charge and get back out so 1 at a time charging is just not efficient at all and I refuse to pay $250 each for a basic wall charger for 5 batteries not to mention all the space that takes up in my camera bag its beyond silly so alternatives are very important .. You know it makes sense! That is my inclination but I stumbled across the small travel charger somewhere on this site and it was attractively compact. I think, though, I will stick to the original. Thanks to all for all the feedback.
Ken Chuang Posted June 30, 2023 Share #13 Posted June 30, 2023 I tried charging the Q3 battery BP-SCL6 with the Nitecore ULSL charger (which worked fine for my Q2) and it seems to have some difficulty in charging. I am not sure what when wrong. Anyone care to elaborate?
Ken Chuang Posted June 30, 2023 Share #14 Posted June 30, 2023 On a related issue, can anyone tell me what does a continuous green LED means on the Leica Q3 when I have the USB-C attached to it?
MikeD70 Posted June 30, 2023 Share #15 Posted June 30, 2023 I'm sticking to the original Leica charger, The higher capacity of the new Q3 batteries will probably need a higher charger output than the older Q & Q2 versions. At least that's what I'm thinking. As a reference, Canon came out with higher capacity batteries for their newer mirrorless camera's, and cautioned against using the older chargers. Anyhow, better safe than sorry, those batteries do have memories after all. I originally picked up an extra, but with the lack of reliable usb options, I think I'll look for a third. It'll take awhile to find the actual shooting life of the new batteries. Happy shooting. Let the learning begin.

MikeD70 Posted June 30, 2023 Share #17 Posted June 30, 2023 Ken, great point, I missed that. That just makes the whole thing a bit more confusing. I guess that just equates to longer charging times. Time will tell.

ikc Posted July 1, 2023 Share #19 Posted July 1, 2023 I bought the Nitecore charger to use while traveling because it is so much smaller than the Leica charger + power cord. Leica would do well to integrate the plug into the charging box rather than attach a long cord (or offer a modular plug vs cord option). Having said the above, now that I have the Q3, I don't see much reason to travel with anything other than a USB-C cable. All of my Apple ecosystem hardware uses USB-C, and Apple makes a nice dual USB-C charger. A number of third party companies make gallium nitride chargers that are tiny and can be used to charge multiple devices at once. I'd get feedback of this thinking is incorrect for any reason (slower charging, inability to charge a flat battery, etc.).
LeicaBitOfThis Posted July 2, 2023 Share #20 Posted July 2, 2023 Can one use any charger through the USB-C socket in the Q3? I have one of the 25W quick chargers with multiple sockets for USB-A and USB-C.
