Steven Lane Posted May 31, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 31, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone. Does anyone know if the new Q3 thumb grip is compatible with the Q2? I was wondering if the fn button on the Q2 was aligned with one on the grip to allow it to be used. With the introduction of the additional fn button on the Q3, I am unsure if one occupies the same place as the Q2, or if it was shifted along a couple of millimetres to make room for the second one. Looking at pictures of the rear of the camera I think it aligns OK but I cannot be sure. I have a Q2 Ghost (not the kit version) and would really like a silver thumb grip for it. Thanks in advance. Ktsa5239 Posted June 1, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 1, 2023 I’m in the same boat! Hopefully the new silver thumb grip would fit the ghost Q2!

Ktsa5239 Posted June 6, 2023 Share #4 Posted June 6, 2023 I can report that the thumbgrip for the Q3 fits perfectly on the Q2. Even the button lines up so you don’t loose the functionality of the button. It’s a great solution for those of us who couldn’t get the ghost set!

Daniel C.1975 Posted June 14, 2023 Share #7 Posted June 14, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Just my opinion on style: I prefer the Q2-Version without ribbons on the inner radius. The ribbons disturb the clean design - for me. As big fan of a thumb-grip on the Q in principle - I most likely will buy it nevertheless Edited June 14, 2023 by Daniel C.1975
Tom Johnston Posted June 22, 2023 Share #8 Posted June 22, 2023 I put a Thumbs Up grip on my Q2. There is a slight difference in the ergonomics in that there is a slight angle of the surface where your thumb rests. Before this I wasn't a fan of thumb grips or base plate grips, but I was pleasantly surprised how much I like them, so much so that I also got them from my M10 as well. Phil75 Posted August 5, 2023 Share #10 Posted August 5, 2023 Thanks. Luckily found a brass thumb support for my Q2 after checking with some NY dealers, looks much better in reality than expected.

lpeeples Posted August 6, 2023 Share #12 Posted August 6, 2023 Adding to the discussion, does the thumbs grip wear or scratch the Q3 at all?
Phil75 Posted August 7, 2023 Share #13 Posted August 7, 2023 Not at all, there is a rubber inlay on the backside (Q3 Version).

tommytickles Posted August 30, 2023 Share #15 Posted August 30, 2023 Is the button on the Q3 grip mushy like it is on the Q2 grip or did they improve that?

I didn't own the Q2 grip, just hat tried it out quickly once at another dealer. The buttons seemed similar though. The Q3 grip works perfectly with the Q2. MindsEye Posted September 8, 2023 Share #17 Posted September 8, 2023 (edited) Hi All, If anyone wants a black Q3 Leica brand thumb support (# 19533) , the dealer from which I bought my Q3 has one in stock. It was actually on backorder for me but I found one a few weeks ago so this one is available! Talk to Matt at The Pixel Connection in Ohio matt@thepixelconnection.com They are an authorized Leica dealer and I have had great experiences with them. The black thumb grips seem to still be backordered at most dealers so if you want this one, I'd jump on it. By the way, I've had mine a few weeks and I consider it essential for grip, balance, and overall ergonomics. The buttons on the thumb support work well and even easier to use than directly on the camera. Highly recommended accessory. P.S. I started a new thread with this and just remembered this thread. Sorry for any redundancy. Edited September 8, 2023 by MindsEye

The Q2 thumb grip button is very mushy by comparison.
WaitListed Posted September 25, 2023 Share #19 Posted September 25, 2023 Has anyone ever used a 3rd party thumb grip (like the one from LIM)? It's $100 versus the unavailable $230 Leica grip. I generally like to use original manufacturer branded products, but $230 for a strip of metal seems a little excessive. Anyone tried a 3rd party thumb support? Any recommendations, nagging doubts, burning issues?? Thanks. https://www.amazon.com/LIMS-Camera-Support-Aluminum-Handgrip/dp/B0CG1PPT44/ref=sr_1_2?crid=39YFQBKINYYKW&keywords=leica+q3&qid=1695653597&s=electronics&sprefix=leica+q3%2Celectronics%2C170&sr=1-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.18ed3cb5-28d5-4975-8bc7-93deae8f9840
oldsalt Posted September 26, 2023 Share #20 Posted September 26, 2023 You can also try the "Haoge" grip... a lot cheaper than genuine Leica. cheers
