B&H let me know this morning that they estimate they will receive a small number of Q3s by 6/27.

They said that the 6/27 shipment will not have enough units to get to where my order is in the queue (I placed my order on 5/25 at 11:10am ET).

I asked if the following shipment (after the one on 6/27) receives the same number of units, would that then be enough to reach my spot in the queue. The answer was, "It would not unfortunately, they'd have to send a slightly larger wave. It's too soon to conclude any pattern, but this upcoming shipment is larger than the first shipment we received, so hopefully they continue with that progressing production rate."

Man, I placed my order on the 30th. Starting to feel like I won’t have a camera in my hands ‘till August or later if that’s the rate they are going at.

It is disheartening, to say the least. I'm taking a trip at the end of July and am really hoping to have the camera by then. It seems like my best bet will be to hover on the leicacamerausa site and hope to catch one there.

I think you mean 5/25 and 5/27 right? I also think it’s possible that they have less volume. I’m glad you were able to get it so soon. Have you had any issues with it?

Correct, I meant 5/25 and 5/27 (announcement date and date I received the call from Leica Boston). Doh!

I am VERY pleased with the Q3. I had the Q2 since launch and until the Q3 arrived, was shooting with the Q2M. The AF speed and accuracy of the face/eye-AF is fantastic and eliminates the biggest issue I had with the Q2 and Q2M. I haven't done any scientific tests but the low light, high-ISO performance with the Q3 vs Q2 seems better (another issue I had with the Q2). Clearly, the Q3 can't compete with the Q2M in low light, but I'm very impressed with it so far.

I haven't read the rest of this thread since my post back on page 8, but issues I've had are the following:

  1. One time I had the camera stay on when I turned it off. I only found out a few hours later when I pulled it out of my bag and it was hot and the battery was significantly drained. It only happened once. Not sure if it was related to the firmware update, but since updating, I haven't had this happen again.
  2. When shooting in low light, prior to half-pressing the viewfinder, I find the scene looks properly exposed based on the current settings. Once I half-press the shutter, the subject in the VF gets darker and it looks like I've underexposed the shot. However, when I review the image in playback, it's properly exposed. I assume I have some internal setting wrong and that there's nothing wrong with the camera (i.e. this is user error).

Otherwise, I LOVE the Q3 and will be selling my Q2M shortly. There were questions about whether the lens was able to handle the new 60 MP sensor. I'm blown away by how well it performs so that's not a question for me. Here's a shot I took at the Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal. Handheld at 1/50, ISO 640 and wide open at f/1.7 (EV was -2/3 but I should have lowered it even more to avoid some blown highlights).

I'm sold!

Steve

Did they mention how big is that queue?  I preordered mine on the 25th around noon.

No, he didn't say. They have been pretty tight-lipped, particularly about the queue, every time I speak with them. I was surprised he would even answer my questions about estimating how many shipments it might take to reach my spot in the queue. I have found that figuring out how to ask indirectly gets the closest to an actual reply. E.g. "If the queue was cut into quarters, which quarter am I currently in?" (I am in the first quarter.)

My q3 came in today! Got it from World of Photography in Columbus OH. They had ordered 3 right before release. The didn't have anyone on the list so I got the first one! They do not ship though so someone else local will get a chance. Super excited!

When I talked to them on the phone they had one other person on the list to call but had not paid. They have at least one up for grabs to my understanding.

This turned out to be the hottest tip I've gotten so far! I gave World of Photography a call and, while they don't do e-commerce, they did agree to ship to me in Pennsylvania. Someone had already called about the last one they had in stock, but I put down a 10% deposit and will get the next Q3 they receive!

Awesome! I am glad I was able to help out! I hope it comes in soon for you.

Based on everything I’ve seen/heard I don’t think B&H gets more stock than say a small camera store, but since they are bigger the amount of people ordering from them is more so it creates even longer wait times.
I regret not going with a smaller store.

I think you're on to something here. I'm so curious to know about the numbers--how many orders they've taken and how many units they've received so far. I anticipate that the smaller store will come through first and I will end up cancelling my B&H order.

Tamarkin just emailed me that, based on their waiting list, it would be one year. I'd say without exaggeration, that Leica has dropped the ball on this one big time.
