Why I've posted

It's not a particularly outstanding photo but, for me, carries some significance. When young I was entranced by Heinrich Harrer's book detailing attempts to scale the north face of the Eiger culminating in his success (with others) on the first ascent in 1938. The book is called "The White Spider” in homage to the deadly key to a successful ascent—an ice field below the summit in the form of a white spider. I am so happy to have captured the feature (now smaller than the original as the world has warmed) so the photo means much to me.

Visited a local orchard and fruit stand today for some yummy cherries.  Grabbed a few shots while there.

And a shot of some cherries still on the trees.  The manager said they were not going to pick these because the winds have been so strong here for weeks that they are too battered and not worth the labor costs to pick.  They looked fine to me and tasted good as he told me to eat one.  So sweet.  NOt sure what variety they were.

Reminds me of my youth growing up in Oregon. We had cherry trees on both properties where we lived--sweet dark cherries and Rainier cherries. I used to climb the trees and just stuff myself on them. Fortunately, we did not leave that all behind when our family moved to Wisconsin. I soon discovered that the Door County peninsula in this state is also famous for great cherries. We bought some just this morning and I finished a bowl about five minutes before seeing your photos.

A rather civilized concert at a park near my house. Chamber music played by a string quartet.

My photo today is of the fabulous, fairy-tale garden at Earlshall Castle near Leuchars in Scotland.

Here are a couple of shots taken in rural Georgia, along a state highway that was once one of the main routes from the North to Florida -- before the construction of I95.  This is how they came out of the camera with no changes other than to reduce for posting.  I was amused to note the business in the second photo was "shut" rather than "closed."  ;<)
