Pierre68 Posted May 17, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello S users. I am planning a trip to Iceland this summer and I am looking for some input about which backpack would suit to carry a S007 and 4-5 lenses (+SF 60 Flash?) and accessories (filters, tripod etc). Any suggestion?
Advertisement Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 Hi Pierre68, Take a look here Which backpack to travel with the S system?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
amamoy2 Posted May 17, 2023 Share #2 Posted May 17, 2023 I have had good luck traveling with my S system in the Wotancraft backpack. Easily accommodated S, 3 lenses, M with small lens, laptop and accessories.
irenedp Posted May 17, 2023 Share #3 Posted May 17, 2023 (edited) A ThinkTank Airport with wheels. Two S bodies, 35 mm, 70 mm, Mamiya 50 shift, and 120 TS. Plus, just in case, set of lee filters and a flashlight. Macbook Pro 14, card reader, extra batteries. There’s a version of the airport without wheels although I wouldn’t recommend it if you load it heavily Edited May 17, 2023 by irenedp

Seems interesting to carry lots of gear though airports commute and hotels. And I will probably get one for this purpose But I am looking for something to carry my gear into the wild while trekking and camping under the Icelandic rain... Anyway thank you
jaapv Posted May 18, 2023 Share #5 Posted May 18, 2023 I would suggest selecting your gear, take it to your camera shop and select the pack that fits best.

LeicaR10 Posted May 18, 2023 Share #7 Posted May 18, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Pierre68, Jaapv in his Post 5 offers sage advice for you selecting a backpack. You really need to test the various packs and there is a correct and wrong way to select a backpack. I suggest you do a Google search for tips for selecting a backpack. Then go to the local camera shop and select one that is right for you. Last thing you want is to find a backpack and especially the pack harness that doesn't meet you carry needs and worse, is uncomfortable to wear/carry over any distance. Been there, done that... r/ Mark Edited May 18, 2023 by LeicaR10

Relative to the ThinkTank there is a backpack version, but I wouldn’t load it too much because it can become very heavy. When I think on a project, there are a number of considerations. The gear is determined by its nature (what you are gonna do), but also where and how easy it is to access, i.e. if you have to walk long distances or hike, etc. When I have to walk or hike long distances I prefer to travel as light as possible. If I will need heavy equipment, I will ask somebody to come with me. I usually try to travel with only one bag but at times, like when you need lighting, it is just not possible. Sometimes, for instance when you will need a large image, you can come back and take the shot with the right equipment and at others you have to “take everything” because going back would be so expensive (or outright impossible). I have put together in a terrible ipad photo part of what I use. The image is rather terrible, but the green messenger is a good option if you can take one body and two lenses, say a 70 and a wide angle. It is also made by ThinkTank although I don’t remember the model name. As a backpack for hikes I also have a Vanguard, not depicted here (the Alta sky 49) which is capable, very rugged and comfortable and is priced very reasonably. Unfortunately camera strores around here are small (very mall). They usually carry 2-3 shoulder bag models and some top loaders but I am not sure they would have just one backpack model... jaapv Posted May 18, 2023 Share #11 Posted May 18, 2023 Surely if you can travel to Iceland you can travel within Switzerland?

Sure thing 😉 But honestly I would know where to find a large camera store in Switzerland. Any input about that from fellow Swiss photographer would be greatly appreciated
Jeff S Posted May 18, 2023 Share #13 Posted May 18, 2023 Good to have local input, but for easy search, I find that Google and a phone works well. You already have some brand names to narrow a search. And for more, a forum search is also easy… Jeff

I guess if I would like to find one of the bags that are discussed there, I d better get a shovel and all the equipment needed for an archeologic search... Well, I can locate shops in Switzerland that carry popular current backpacks from these brands, which still exist…and I live in the US and don’t need or care about another pack. The linked thread took 5 seconds to find…. there are loads of others. Just trying to steer you on a course to help. Jeff
Pierre68 Posted May 18, 2023 Author Share #16 Posted May 18, 2023 The "largest" store in Lausanne, where I usually buy my stuff, display 182 backpacks on their web site. But when I stopped by the other day they had none in the shop... Impossible to try then. That's why I dared to ask for some advice here. The thread is derailing and I dont'like the tone this discussion is taking.

Just something to consider, based on Jaap’s good advice, while you wait for local recommendations. Jeff
Jeff S Posted May 18, 2023 Share #18 Posted May 18, 2023 Mindshift, part of the Think Tank brand, also offers various options. David Farkas (Leica Miami/ Red Dot Forum), a frequent traveler to Iceland, has written about his pack. https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2018/05/whats-in-our-camera-bags/#DavidS Jeff

But his bag seems to no longer be available... There are however a 34 and 50L Mindshift Rotation 180 backpack available. I love this brand as their MindShift Gear PhotoCross 13 Sling Bag is currently the best every day photo bag I have ever come across. It is just the best solution for shooting on short city outings for me.
Jeff S Posted May 18, 2023 Share #20 Posted May 18, 2023 Models change frequently; my suggestion, even with the prior old link, was to give ideas on major brands so that you could more effectively conduct a Google search by brand for Swiss retailers.
