simonpj Posted May 16, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 16, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) For most of the past 10 years I have been working with an M-P240 and an SL, for a mixture of professional theatre and stage work, and personal travel. I am considering trading both cameras in for a (down payment) on an M11. How significant is the step up in terms of dynamic range and high iso performance. I have read many reviews and technical evaluations, but I’m interested in practical real world experience. Edited May 16, 2023 by simonpj
Advertisement Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 Hi simonpj, Take a look here Should I trade MP240 and SL for M11 to benefit from latest sensor technology?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
simonpj Posted May 16, 2023 Author Share #2 Posted May 16, 2023 For more context, I do find that for theatre work I sometimes stretch the limits of low light / high iso performance - particularly with the M-P240 - and I do often crop in quite hard to achieve the best framing of key dramatic moments. pgh Posted May 16, 2023 Share #3 Posted May 16, 2023 If I did theater work the only Leica I'd use would be the SL2S. So to answer your question - no, that's not a trade I'd make.

jaapv Posted May 16, 2023 Share #5 Posted May 16, 2023 Concur - an SL2-S seems more useful for the work you do. And keep the M240 for travel.

Kwesi Posted May 17, 2023 Share #7 Posted May 17, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having skipped a generation,I think you are right at that point where you normally would benefit from new sensor technology in the M11. I remember banding and other artefacts when I tried opening up iso 3200 mp 240 files. I am an m11 owner and normally wouldn’t hesitate to say yes. The game changer now though is the new Denoise feature in Lightroom classic. I would suggest trying that first. It could easily save you a quite a bit of cash.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted May 17, 2023 Share #8 Posted May 17, 2023 Can you hold out for the SL3? Almost certainly it will have a version of the 60MP sensor in the upcoming Q3. Gordon
Tailwagger Posted May 18, 2023 Share #9 Posted May 18, 2023 (edited) Given the trade-in value of the 240 and SL these days, IMO you'd be better served keeping one and selling the other for a used M10-R or SL2-S, depending on which provided the most use cases.
