Hey guys, I own an m240. I love it. (Also M7 and M3). I love the organic feel of almost everything that comes out of it. I shoot with mostly older lenses (35 cron v4, 40 cron, 50 super old cron (5m)). I am

loosely considering upgrading, mostly for low light performance. I don’t think the m10 was enough of an upgrade. I’ve played with the m11 and don’t love the clinical files that came out of it. Considering an m10-r. Is there anyone who’s owned a 240 and knows the special nature of its images… who’s moved to an m10-r ? Does it have that same feel ? Thank you… Adam

My take is if you love the way M240 renders, just keep it, nothing really renders like the older models like M8/9/240.

Not relevant to the question, I got myself the Q2, try to come out with a profile that match closely to the M240, but close isn't really close. Objectively the colors matches very close, but the M240 just has that extra something that makes the images rich and organic. If I want to put it down in words, i felt the limited dynamic range of the M240 is what gives it the unique signature, you can really make the image pop right off the screen once you move the sliders - the images from newer sensors just don't give that kind of response.

I came from a M240P and got the M10R.  Main reason was low light shots, pulling shadows, and blown highlights.  As @sometimesmaybe says, LR's relatively new noise reduction component is excellent IMHO.  I used DeNoise in the past and it worked fine but i did not like the exporting a file and getting back a huge TIFF file.  Regarding blown highlights, it seems to me like the default for the M10R is to under expose one or one and half stops.  At least that is my impression.

In fact, the 240 is optimal for me. I don't have that many night shots. I go up to 1600, use the camera like an analogue M. Then noise is not an issue.
I think the colors and look of the pictures are absolutely fine. In any case, I consider the results directly from the camera more as a suggestion and as a raw file. Which I adapt in the post according to my ideas. I also think the 24 MP is completely sufficient. I don't need more, just clutters up my computer.
And I actually enjoy the possibility of being able to record a short film with the camera. At first I thought "...I don't need it at all". But now - great thing.
The size of the camera, the slightly higher volume - it doesn't bother me. It feels good in the hand. Sure, the M10 is slimmer. The brass is starting to show through on mine. And finally: the power consumption. You forget that the camera even has a battery.
Currently, none of the newer models justify the additional price for me. Above all, I don't have the feeling that I'm missing something. On the contrary....

My experience in going from M240 (with 35&50 FLE and 50APO) to M10-R.

As I look at my newly captured M10-R images, apart from the well documented M10-R body/sensor improvements,

The new images actually looks like I bought 3 new lens versions of my 35&50 FLE and 50APO

Tangible improvements of the M10-R over the M240:

Auto WB is much more accurate.

Lower and higher ISO image benefits are very welcomed.

Over exposed recovery from DNGs is superb.

Body is slimmer and more comfortable to hold. The new body ergonomics together with my 50APO, just makes the combo a nicer package to hold and use.

Menus are simpler and more logical.II can now shoot with both eyes open with the optically improved OVF.

I’m enthralled with the new quieter shutter, as I dislike loud shutters.

Having smaller batteries, with a second, has removed my anxiety of the larger single 240 battery.

I've kept my M240 and may give to a family member with my Zeiss 50 Planar, as I still consider it good, but the M10-R is dramatically better for me.

It only took me 2 mins of shooting the M10-R to realise this, so immediately purchased it on a post-Christmas dealer sale.
