Mariano727 Posted May 4, 2023 Share #1 Posted May 4, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good morning, I would like to know if the automatic noise reduction can be deactivated when taking a long exposure. Thanks and regards.
Advertisement Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Hi Mariano727, Take a look here Disable noise reduction. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ianforber Posted May 5, 2023 Share #2 Posted May 5, 2023 Sadly, no. Just need to wait around while it takes a second dark shot
StephanB Posted May 12, 2023 Share #3 Posted May 12, 2023 You can disable Noise Reduction feature (assuming in the SL2). It's in the menu Long Exposure Noise Reduction option,
Olaf_ZG Posted May 12, 2023 Share #4 Posted May 12, 2023 Maybe this issue will be solved with the Q3, cause with the m11 it is possible, so I hope Leica copied that into the Q3.
Mariano727 Posted May 26, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted May 26, 2023 Indeed the problem has been resolved with Q3, but I don't understand why they don't implement it in Q2 with an update.

You could say it’s actually more ‘work’ for Leica to implement a NR feature and if it wasn’t needed to begin with, it would have been cheaper and easier to not implement it to begin with. The fact that it was implemented means that it’s beneficial and the fact that it was not made optional means there’s probably some inherit hardware reason that requires it (i.e. insufficient sensor heat dissipation during long exposure resulting in degraded image quality at high ISO). Lopezso Posted August 13, 2023 Share #7 Posted August 13, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I don’t know if this is the right thread to ask this question, but does any one know if it is “safe” to move the camera during noise reduction process without impacting the resulting image? I mean since I can’t turn NR off can I at least move around to the next spot (of course would without turning the camera off)? From page 76 of the downloadable user manual that must be the case (i.e., it is perfectly safe to move the camera). The page includes the following: Quote Long exposure times may cause severe image noise. In order to reduce this annoying phenomenon, the camera will take a second “dark frame” (taken with the shutter closed) automatically after a shooting with slow shutter speed and high ISO value. (My emphasis) Quote The doubling of the “exposure” time must be taken into account for long-term exposure times. The camera must not be switched off during that time. So I'm sure you can move the camera but clearly you shouldn't turn it off while it's taking the dark frame. Stephen
