They decided not to provide free software anymore. To my original point, why should software engineers have to work for free and hardware engineers get to eat steak and retire wealthy? You would need to read back through this thread to find the details. Wilson That was Capture One Express. Capture One Express was always free. Many hardware purchases come with a limited time free piece of software. I've seen temporary free Microsoft Office and McAfee come with new computers and that at some point you need to buy a license. I've seen many years ago a Photoshop lite version that would come with cameras free. I know that doesn't work anymore unless someone is running Windows XP. I have a paid Capture One Pro licenses. It doesn't expire and doesn't require an internet connection. It will run as long as I want to run a piece of hardware and operating system to run it on. Again, it comes down to many people not understanding that software companies need to pay the engineers that develop the software like any other business. I know many folks think that geeks just love doing their jobs so much they don't get paid. Without software, any piece of hardware from a refrigerator to a Leica Camera is just a fancy hammer. wlaidlaw Posted December 13, 2024 Author Share #143 Posted December 13, 2024 I just think that Capture One is now poor value compared to Photoshop or to the Microsoft 365 office suite. Wilson

I remember having to log in to verify/validate my license. At one point the software launched the browser to do that. It was about that time I gave up on Capture One. I'd already had other reasons, the login requirement was the final straw. That was 2 or 3 years ago. Things may be different, now.

I also had a Capture One Pro subscription a couple of years ago and I had to log in online every or every other time I started the software (from what I remember). Would be good to know if that has changed.

Didn't have it before nor after.
