Advertisement Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Hi Le Chef, Take a look here Rehab in Uptown. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
war Posted April 27, 2023 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2023 Very nice shot of a very sad project. The "rehab" has been delayed so many times for so many years by so many developers that it seems more unlikely every day. The encouraging thing is that materials have been placed over some of the terra cotta to stabilize it from further deterioration. Fingers crossed.

Uptown used to be a thriving entertainment area in the 1930’s through to the 1950’s. It’s home to another highly decorated theater called the “Aragon” which is also in disrepair. And finally it’s the home of the jazz club “The Green Mill” which became famous for being co-owned by Al Capone. He eluded captivity by using an escape tunnel built underneath the bar that allowed him to exit in another building. It’s a great neighborhood gone to seed that could be great again. But like every restoration project it needs $millions of public and private money that it will likely never get.
