Hi all,

After searching for few days here and following advice from the other folks here, I have finally placed an order for SL2-S + 50mm kit today.  I want to buy a 35mm lens later but may go for a M fit lens to keep weight down. I was with Nikon full frame for few years and then Fuji XF setup for last four years. Really excited 😊

I am on the fence!  Because of an eye surgery, I am not using my M10 at all.  So I am considering using that for a trade.  When the SL first came out years ago, I got one but never purchased any

SL lens.  I just used my 3 M lenses, but then I traded that in because, I thought it was a pain to have great M lenses on an auto focus camera.  I have one week left to pull the trigger.  Thanks for any advice.

Cheers

I bought an SL2-S with the voucher and only have M lenses to use with it. I've used it almost exclusively over my M10R since I received it in October. I just love having the EVF (I'm coming to Leica as a Sony user) and find that it makes a big difference in the number of keepers I have (both in terms of focus and framing). If you have eye issues, I highly recommend giving the SL(2)(S) bodies a go. That EVF is a game changer.

PS - Coming from the Sony system I don't think of the SL2-S as a "great auto focus camera." It's a great camera, and it has autofocus, but it doesn't have great autofocus. So for my purposes (travel, documentary, landscapes) I don't mind using the M lenses on it at all.

Having two SL2-S I use the Reportage (The Green Hornet) with the 24-70mm 2.8, so far I am very impressed with the Auto focus, any future lenses I purchase will be SL lenses.

The other nicknamed the (The Black knight ) I use solely for my Leica R and M lenses as well as my Zeiss Milvas, they all work great on the SL2-S.

Jimleicam, if you have the opportunity to try SL lenses on the SL2-S do so, remember the SL2-S has a fantastic EVF and IBIS and it's own in built Diopter adjuster to which your M10 hasn't got.

SL Lenses are larger then M lenses, but personally I find the M lenses small and fiddly, much prefer my Leica R and Zeiss Milvas lenses to my M lenses on my SL2-S.

The only negative issue I have with my SL2-S's is both are battery power heavy but I have bought several batteries for them.

Nevertheless I don't think you'll be sorry, I know I'am not, looking forward to checking out the SL3 when it's introduced.

Good Luck.

My Leica journey has included M and SL bodies, as I've written about extensively.  As a senior with typical vision issues I could no longer get the image quality I wanted using the M body despite far preferring that format (lenses with distance markings for easy hypercritical focus, small/easy to use/carry).

I bought a used SL 601, found it very heavy with the 24-90 zoom, but overall a very flexible platform with an "old school" pro feel (heavy, but solid when shooting in all conditions).  I sold it a bit hastily as the weight and comfort bothered me (the zoom doesn't balance very well on the supplied shoulder strap).  Now, less than a year later, I realize how much I miss the SL platform, and my SL2-S 50mm kit will arrive within a week.

The combination of a lower weight prime, IBIS in camera, and the upgrades in the newer body will hopefully end my search for the perfect Leica for my needs, especially since the majority of my images are 50mm perspective.  And I still have my iPhone 14 Pro for less critical shooting, but with incredible image potential and ultimate flexibility.

I don't understand the people who obsess about the fastest, best autofocus all the time, or the most megapixels.. I have the Leica SL2s with 24-70. It's plenty fast and focuses accurately. I don't know what else you would need, especially when some of the greatest sports photos ever were taken on cameras with NO autofocus. i agree, the Leica EVF is phenomenal and the best thing about the SL series next to the clarity of the menus. It's the main reason I bought the camera along with the ability to accept my M lenses.

I realize I am a little late to this conversation.. just joining the Leica family. Have a SL2-S on the way. Looking for my first Lens. Have it narrowed down to 3:
Leica Summicron-R 50mm F/2 Lens V1, 2 Cam, Sigma 45mm f2.8 dg dn and/or Voigtlander NOKTON classic 40mm F1.4 SC VM.

Looking to shoot some low light. Walking around lens, on the street, architecture, people and landscape.

would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.
