I did the last SL2-S firmware update via the FOTOS app, but there was no prompt to save user profiles, so once the update was done I had to manually re-set all my profiles.  So, make sure you export them onto an SD card first, but if you're doing this you might as well update the firmware via SD card.  I passed on the lack of a prompt on the FOTOS app to Leica, and from the response I got it seemed they were not aware of this and would investigate further.

I was caught out as coming from Fujifilm (all X and GFX kit now sold), their firmware updates don't delete user profiles.

Can the firmware be installed via the FOTOS app? I thought that was one of the features they added in the last big update.

It would be much safer and faster to use a card reader than the FOTOS app.

I have downloaded the firmware into the root directory but it says it cannot find the firmware. Also the fotos app does not let me update the camera.

Make sure the file for the Q2 (not Q2M) is named Q2___500.lfu and not the installation notes file which is EN_Q2_FW5.0_Release Notes

You should be able to literally drop that file onto the image of your card on the desktop and it will go into the root directory.

Also a tip before you start this process: Use the "Export settings" instruction to place your settings onto your memory card. Then place those on your desk top just in case the installation wipes them. Once you have installed the 5.0 update you can import your settings back into the camera using the "Import settings" instruction.

And avoid using the FOTOS app for installing updates: it's useless, prone to stalling and is very slow. Using a card reader is much safer and faster.

I had no problem drag/dropping the firmware update file to my SD card.  I tried out the facial/eye recognition update and it is much better than the previous version.  I also noted that the pdf file with the firmware changes/additions mentions that Profoto compatibility is now installed.  I do not know if that means that a Profoto A10 flash now can take advantage of the TTL metering in the Q2, such as it does with the SL2.

The firmware update will reset the file numbering to 1. After the update, you can copy the last image you took from your computer to the SD card. (Copy the photo to the proper folder, not the root directory.) When you take another photo, it will continue the file numbering from that photo.

Yesterday I downloaded the Leica Q2 Monochrom - Firmware 5.0.0 firmware from the official Leica website and installed it on my monochrom, the update was successful, checking the camera menu it shows 5.0.0 but it hasn't changed nothing on the menu!!!!! In the settings of the AF menu the screen should be this, while in mine it remained as before without Tracking!!!

Can anyone tell me if his update was successful, that is, if something has changed?????

Thank you for your help. I tried dragging the file from the desktop and it would not work. I have just copied and pasted the file and now it works fine.

this is how I also resolved the problem with mac/LQ2M
