After Le Havre had been almost completely destroyed in 44, the Belgian architect Auguste Perret was commissionned for the rebuilding of the entire city. Part of it was St Joseph Church, built between 1951 and 1958

Located in the centre of the city, its unique tower, resembling a lantern, is visible all around.

This is a very nice set. Thanks for showing it. I hope you have more of his work to show us at Le Havre.

Some might not know how important the work of Auguste Perret was to architecture and town planning. Although beautiful in its own right, the modernity of this new city may be quite shocking to those who have visited picturesque places like Honfleur, just across the Seine from Le Havre that did not suffer the bombings.
