Wireless TTL Control of SF-24D Theory

I was wondering if there is a way to have wireless TTL control of the SF-24D (I have an M9).  I know that I can get wired, off-camera TTL by using Nikon’s SC-17 cord, because they use the same contact point pattern.  Obviously, each pin transmits specific data that is then transmitted to the flash, allowing the flash to act as if it were directly connected to the camera.  So, what would be the reason why a wireless, Nikon-compatible transmitter/receiver combo, which uses the same contact point pattern, would not allow TTL information to be wirelessly transmitted between the camera and flash? It seems like it should work.  I am sure there is something more complicated that I am missing.  Has anyone tried this?  If so, what was the result?  Thanks in advance.
