John Black Posted April 18, 2023 Share #44 Posted April 18, 2023 If using Capture One to process the raws, please vote here to get the Leica M11 Monochrom profile added to Capture One - https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/10462316695069-Leica-M11-Monochrom As is, Capture One is not processing the files correctly under the "Generic DNG" profile. Alot of detail is lost, presumably due to the RGB de-bayering process or whatever C1 does. C1 can be sort of tricked by changing EXIF values - Camera Make = Leica Camera AG Camera Model = LEICA M10 MONOCHROM Sensor Type = One-chip color area This will bring back the acuity and apply the M10-M tones curves, but the noise levels are high. Capture One is slow to add new cameras, so hopefully we can help Capture One prioritize their work by adding some votes

algrove Posted April 18, 2023 Share #46 Posted April 18, 2023 First few test shots to see how the meter handles extremes. It passed with flying colors-or should I say with flying non-colors. Ev -2/3 with H/L Weighted Mode. Spot might have the best on the pilings, but since it was a test to see just how accurate the meter is I used H/L mode. These were all done in direct, bright 2pm sunlight too-a torture test time.. Easy to push the files around in C1 even though no profile is yet available with them for the M11M. Also only global adjustments made so plenty more can be done with these images to improve them. Edited April 18, 2023 by algrove

Thanks so much. I'm also by the ocean and will have lots of contrasty subjects. Do you think you could have gotten away with highlight weighted or multi field and no negative EC? algrove Posted April 19, 2023 Share #53 Posted April 19, 2023 (edited) Yes, it seems the -2/3's was probably not needed, but it will take some trial and error to figure it out. That said the meter is the strong point of this camera. So easy to use versus other digital M's I have used for what 14 years. Love the EVF in B&W so no jpg's to mess with. Have not tried multi field yet. Edited April 19, 2023 by algrove 1

Capture One replied with the below. I haven’t tried yet M11M DNG files on Capture One, will do later today, but the important part of their reply is I guess the last sentence! Reverting the thread back to pictures. Christian Grüner Moderator While we are actively working on full support for the M11 Monochrome, i'd like to add that given the camera shoots DNG's out of the box, they are read just fine with our Native DNG support. Expect full support very soon.

But just to be sure they are not de-mosaicing anything I will like to get the proper M11M profile.

algrove Posted April 19, 2023 Share #59 Posted April 19, 2023 (edited) I mainly shoot manual and was told today that I should try my bright midday shots again setting the SS dial to A so that when 1/4000 is not enough if want to use f1.4 then M11M will switch to electronic shutter (if hybrid set) and if subject not moving. Of course same with M11. OK so advancements sometimes are ignored (by me). Edited April 19, 2023 by algrove

Though if I were back into street photography and/or documentary, I would shoot in Auto ISO. You can still adjust manually ISO to allow for wide open apertures in bright daylight. The electronic shutter is a marvel and makes ND filters irrelevant unless you have fast moving subjects. With it, Noctilux lenses work wonders in bright daylight. 😀
