Leica gave me the opportunity to take the new M11 Monochrom and the new Summilux 50 mm to Naples and try both there. You can find a short review about the M11 Monochrom here:

At this point I just want to present you a few photographic impressions of Naples. Camera and lens were made for this city.

Very nice Elmar, but are the images really that much better or more exceptional than from any other camera on the market today that costs a fraction of the price of the M 11 Monochrome?
Is it not more the nimbus and the name LEICA?

I think you are right.
But maybe someone feels especially motivated when he knows that such a noble camera is waiting for work in his photo bag. Personally, I would also prefer to convert the colour images of a digital camera into B&W, because you can control the colour separation better via the channel mixer. The slightly higher detail resolution of the monochrome M may only comes into its own in direct comparison with large prints. In any case, the results looks nice and don't look as soupy and flat in the 1/2-3/4 tones as they did with the first monochrome digital cameras, whose images often required a little more reworking to achieve beautiful grey gradations.

The technical benefits of the Monochrom sensor are mostly irrelevant. It is in the brain: With a black and white sensor (or film) You see black and white. The preview in Your head is different.

That may be, but for many it may make little difference whether they implement this process of seeing b&w one step further in the post.
But there, as with food, tastes are very different. Whereas in the past I didn't commit to SW or colour with the camera but only with the film, here I do it with the whole camera. And that's too much money for me. Very few people can afford or want an M11 AND an M11M. But everyone has a choice. It's nice that the camera exists.

Elmar, I see a subject in b/w, I don't need a camera with this sensor to do that, I can do that with any camera even one for a few euros.

Napoli probably my favourite spot to shoot. There are images in every angle....and what a great occasion to test the new Monocnrom.

Great to see you brought the camera in the inner city, a lot of people are skeptical when entering the quartieri spagnoli....I'd say, just be careful like in any other place.
