Ianindeal Posted April 7, 2023 Share #1  Posted April 7, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) For no apparent reason I am getting "memory card error" message when I switch on camera. I have tried card in a card reader and unable to read and I get message "directory name is invalid" I have a significant number of images on the card and do not wish to reformat. Is there a data recovery tool available or somewhere I can send the card for images to be recovered? Do Leica service offer this? Thanks in advance for any help. Anbaric Posted April 7, 2023 Share #3  Posted April 7, 2023 PhotoRec, which is free, can in some cases work where other recovery tools fail: https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec It's an old-school command-line tool, but there are clear instructions: https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step You may find it easier to use on Windows than a Mac, since the Windows download also includes a GUI version, qphotorec_win.exe
M11 for me Posted April 7, 2023 Share #4 Â Posted April 7, 2023 I feel very sorry for @Ianindeal. Hope you are successful with the advises here. However the case shows that memory cards can fail. To have a backup is essential and whenever possible use 2 cards in one camera and write on both at the same time. Cameras like the M11 provide you with internal memory besides the SD-card which is an excellent option.

Steve Ricoh Posted May 3, 2023 Share #7  Posted May 3, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since mentioning disk-drill I’ve tried installing on my W8.1 laptop, and even the recommended version fails to install. Error report says update the o/s, but of course there are no further updates for this version.
