grahamc Posted April 1, 2023 Share #1 Posted April 1, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone This conversation got started in the Shueido thread but I thought I'd post here in case anyone has Kanto repaint examples they can post . The black paint choices from Kanto seem to be i) Matte ii) Semi Gloss iii) 30% Gloss iv) Standard Glossy Black (The 'standard glossy black' is to match the modern MP) I'd love to see some real life examples (rather than social media product pics) of these different blacks, or hear of your opinion. Cheers ! G

Aryel Posted April 2, 2023 Share #2 Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) Here is how mine look like on the camera. 50f2 rigid, 35f2 v1 and irooa hood. All repainted by Kanto in semi-gloss black. Marckyokay Posted April 11, 2023 Share #4 Posted April 11, 2023 Also interested in this! Anyone with ANY Kanto paint should make a contribution! Would really help anyone considering this 😃 Now that @grahamc has listed the possible black options, I'm curious about that 30% gloss. I feel like most of their repaints is this options, as the Instagram rarely shows the aggressively glossy black paint, but something more than semi-gloss... could be that 30% option? Thanks @Marckyokay . Actually, I made some further enquiries with Kanto about the 30% gloss. It seems that I listed these choices in the wrong order - because 30% gloss is less glossy than semi-gloss. It sits between “matte” and “semi gloss” I think most photos on Kanto Instagram are either ‘semi gloss’ (as @Aryel posted, and matching the paint of m3, m4) or ‘Kanto standard gloss’ (matches higher gloss of m6 millennium , current MP) Depending on the lighting the standard gloss can certainly look a little aggressively glossy but they confirmed to me that for sure it’s the one matching the current black paint finish , so I went for that one thai time (since it’s to create a set with my MP) despite probably preferring the semi-gloss. hope this helps

I guess most repaints are standard and semi. Is the lens you gave them brass? What is the turnaround time now? Last time I asked it was 8 months, the I read someone stating 12… Now? 16? I know some may say that's ridiculous but I'm happy to wait as I have a duplicate of the lens (in another finish) and have also been very impressed with Kanto's CLA work . So overall I'm happy just to forget about the lens and get a very nice surprise sometime in the not-very-near future 😂 Edited April 12, 2023 by grahamc

I also would only go to Kanto, but the 18 months kinda shock me too I must say... Last time I was calculating with 8 months... But that will be a beautiful kit with the glossy BP job!
grahamc Posted July 23, 2023 Author Share #10 Posted July 23, 2023 (edited) Hello. It must’ve been my lucky day as yesterday I received an email from Kanto informing me that my 35:1.4v2 Titanium has been completed in just 3 months. Why ? Because they used / trialled a new method of removing the Titanium plating from the lens. (They told me that they most commonly paint directly over Titanium plate rather than strip to brass, because Titan Plating can present some challenges in removal). I had requested they strip to brass, and was aware that they were using a new method to do so...... But I had absolutely no idea that the lens would be completed so fast because of this. Incredibly thankful and the communication and service has been excellent. They were very clear though that next time any jobs will be completed in the standard/quoted timescale. Here’s a pic supplied by Kanto. When I take delivery of the lens I’ll post another alongside BP MP to see the match . I had this work done to create a set with BP 50:1.4 “millennium” so I’m very keen to see how they look together. A very happy customer so far ! Welcome, dear visitor! Wait is 7-9 months but their overhauls are super smooth. Let’s see

When I was in Japan recently, I was surprised how close Kawasaki is to Tokyo. I passed it several times on day trips to Kanagawa. I should have brought my Leica II, which needs service, with me to leave it with Kanto.

Def worth popping in and asking some questions if you have time @maxfairclough I noticed in Kanto’s email signature that visits need a prior appointment so bare that in mind. Email correspondence is reliable but can be a couple of days delayed depending on their trading days as I think they are closed on Mondays

grahamc Posted August 12, 2023 Author Share #19 Posted August 12, 2023 (edited) Here is a photo of the Kanto 35:1.4v2 (brass, previously titanium coated) and factory MP / 50:1.4 v3 The finished are indistinguishable in real life. Also as a general observation the focus ring of the Kanto overhauled lens just feels incredible. They added their brass/black paint focus tab also, which is very comfortable. Extremely impressed with their work. Now fighting the temptation to get my chrome 90:2v3 repainted to add to this set ! Welcome, dear visitor!
