Why did Leica change the pin out of the remote from the R3-7 to the R8/9

Was there any logic or requirement for Leica to change from the 5 pin plus sleeve of the remote release/intervalometer connector plug used on R3 to R7 cameras, to the 6 pin connector used on the R8/9 cameras. I have just bought a 14277 RC remote to use on on my R4-MOT. It would have been nice if this could have been used on my R8 & 9 cameras as well but the plug is incompatible. Were there any additional functions visible on the LCD screen of the 14202 Remote for the R8/9 that needed the extra pin. I don't know as both of the 14202's I bought had a dead LCD screen and were returned for a refund. Was the change just to make folks who upgraded from one of the earlier Minolta body cameras buy a new remote controller for their R8 or 9 or I am just being cynical.

I think I may have been scammed for the second time within a month on Fleabay. The last day of delivery for the Leica RC remote was today, with no delivery as of this morning's post and the tracking number is a fake.

I hope it is just an honest transcription error and the post is slow but this is exactly the same methodology as the last scam. The seller provided a fake tracking number then fake Fedex parcel delivered notice to Paypal but eBay were already on this seller's case and had suspended his account, so Paypal refunded me. If it does turn out to be a scam, I know that Phil at Croydon Photo has one of these Remotes/Intervalometers for sale at the same price as I paid on eBay. I have asked the seller, who purports to be a trade seller to check the tracking number and advise

The dealer apologised profusely and he had got one digit wrong on the tracking number. It now agrees that it was posted in Bristol (apparently First Class Tracked as it was supposed to go off on the Saturday but did not go off until the Monday) but sadly still has not arrived. A small item I bought from Ffordes, all the way at the other end of the UK in the north of Scotland on Monday, arrived Tuesday morning. Post is very erratic at the moment. Brilliant one time, useless the next. It will be interesting to see how long the Rolleiflex 35-105mm zoom lens I bought from Germany takes to arrive. DHL do not have a good reputation.
