psund Posted November 4, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted November 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone who has tried the new Macbook with Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor and Aperture? Thinking of buying one. How is the performance? Aperture on my intel imac is just ok not much more in performance. Anyone tried it on the old Intel GMA X950 graphics processor? Advertisement Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Hi psund, Take a look here Aperture and new Macbook. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael-IIIf Posted November 5, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted November 5, 2007 I don't know the specifics of the individual processors nor graphics cards but speaking to Apple at a show recently they told me to make sure you have at least 3GB RAM for Aperture. andybarton Posted November 5, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted November 5, 2007 Aperture runs slowly on my 2.0GHz iMac with 1.5gig RAM, so the rep was probably right.
DTD Posted November 5, 2007 Share #4  Posted November 5, 2007 But not as slow as on my iMac G5! I think if at all possible go and get a live demo at a store (and get a lot of RAM – but it's graphics power that Aperture really needs).
cwf Posted November 5, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted November 5, 2007 Fwiw, when I upgraded an iMac G5 from 1.5GB (0.5+1) to 2GB (2x1) I found that Aperture sped up significantly. I think having two identical chips helped as well as the gross increase of one-third. Â For my present limited needs, it is fast enough but I can see where somewhere running a lot of images through it would want it faster. Â The newest iMacs tempt me and I even think about a Mac Pro, but so far I am able to resist.
LichMD Posted November 7, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted November 7, 2007 I was at the recent Aperture Road tour on Saturday in NY, the facilitator made it quite clear that Aperture requires 2 Gb to work smoothly, if you're going to run other programs you'll need more memory. He also stated clearly that memory and the speed of the graphics processor are the key to Aperture working smoothly.

Eoin Posted November 8, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted November 8, 2007 I've just replaced my MBP with a newer version. The older one had a x1900 (256Mb) graphics card and 2Gb ram, the new one has the 8600GT (256Mb) and 4Gb of ram. I can't say I've noticed any difference between them. the only reason I replaced was the screen went funky on the older one and I can't be without a laptop while it's being repaired. spylaw4 Posted November 8, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted November 8, 2007 I've recently got the last model of the Intel white 20" iMacs. Maxing out the RAM to 3Gb (2Gb + 1 Gb) definitely improves the performance. IIRC matching the RAM chips was only really needed in the G5s. [Plug] Crucial website is definitely a good RAM well-priced source! (I have no connection) [/Plug]
psund Posted November 9, 2007 Author Share #10  Posted November 9, 2007 I finally got the ram installed. Now i got 2,5 gb in my imac and the diffrence is huge. It´s much faster than before.
