Well known question... but need advice

Surely infos can be found navigating in the forum, but I feel lazy, sorry...

I just bought a CV 15 and of course plan to use it on M8 : how to afford the UVIR filter issue ? I have 2 Leicas UVIR : 39 and 46, the latter almost never used and would like to use it someway.. the 39 is permanently fitted to other lenses.

Or, anyway, which filter is best to adapt on the 15CV, and rather easy to find ?

Thanks in advance

The 39mm B+W filter can be fitted easily inside the stubby lens shade by using a couple of tiny pieces of double-sided tape, or similar. Some people were able to get some o-rings around the threads and push the filter in, but although a kind forum member sent me an o-ring of the correct size, I was never able to push it in far enough.

Hi Luigi,

i used the carstenw described method.

ciao

Maurizio

Same here. Used a Leica 39mm with piece of gaffer tape on each side and wedged it in. However, to keep the filter from touching the outside lens element, I put a rubber o-ring between lens and filter that gave it a tiny amount of space.

Here is what works for me and allows the filter to be seated back w/o touching the lens: Lightly glue (gorilla glue works fine) a retaining ring(the ring which holds the filter in the mount) from a junk Leitz filter to the back of a 39mm filter and allow the glue to set with the filter/ring combination sitting flush against the lens front (metal not glass, of course). The filter may be retained with two small pieces or a full ring of masking tape on the outer rim of the filter. This yields a comfortable friction fit. The IR filter is thus reasonably secure and optically parallel to the lens elements.
