guywalder Posted November 4, 2007 Share #21 Â Posted November 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you are referring to my post above, then No because because I do not fear my images have fallen into that trap. I am concerned that the world is spinning off into an uneducated, consumer market flock though. It's so much easier to do the safe thing because there are so many out there ready to hassle you if you stick your neck out. A great photo artist I know went to the bank to deposit a check (in Texas) and was informed that the bank was closing his account and that he would have to bank elsewhere. Why? Because they saw his website and he had nude images on it. These were some very beautiful fine art nudes ... go figure. Stnami, forget about online forums - most of the web is about information on what to buy anyway, or how to spend your money. Just go out to any hotel or public business, or museum. Check out what kind of stuff they have on the walls. Pretty bland crap if you ask me. Â Â Eric, I agree completely that society is on a journey to some kind of sterile hell, where peoples only interest is shopping, and only buying from the biggest and most well known brands. However as far as bland, high quality pictures go. I suspect the digital age has to answer for some of this. It is normal to zoom into every image at 100% in a way that just wasnt the case with film. Certainly that was my experience, when I started with digital I was seduced by the resolution, and the ease of making A3+ prints, compared to setting up a drakroom and taking hours to make a few 7x5s. After a year or so I started to realise that I was concentrating more of making pictures to show off the equpment rather than making pictures that were interesting. Advertisement Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Hi guywalder, Take a look here the quest for superior image. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ptomsu Posted November 4, 2007 Share #22 Â Posted November 4, 2007 Unfortunatly too often the quest for superior image quality usually equates to nice, safe and very ordinary images...............the soul is left behind; Â So what is the soul for you? Â I think that image quality and soul are something very individual!

smokysun Posted November 4, 2007 Share #24 Â Posted November 4, 2007 alas, for me, these discussions end up being frustrating cause there's an assumption the subject does not matter, it's simply a problem of finding the right technique. edith piaf knew there was a kind of song that brought out her 'soul'. writers know when they've found 'their' voice. an actor learns which parts he/she can play to perfection. you need only as much equipment and method necessary to a subject to bring out your individual expression. finding what you really want to say (and must) is the source of all great work. even shakespeare couldn't write equally as well about everything. frc Posted November 4, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted November 4, 2007 Individual responsibility. Â Sounds like a well payed job at the office. Fetch a broom each saturday. Â What responsibilities do I have to boast about on family parties? Â Hey, hardly an income, but what subject for a documentary. Yes, an exhibition, no, no huge financial gains. Â Pursuing that one communicating picture is a personal thing. Cameras for the masses are for joy. Snapshots, sharp ones, with top gear. If you can pay. Â Imants, you can't help being a teacher, I noticed before. But I'm afraid you preaching to the wrong community, adressing your words to gear heads. Â Do so, but expect nothing. Bo_Lorentzen Posted November 4, 2007 Share #26 Â Posted November 4, 2007 Stnami, Â Is this not the same question we all kick around..? Â The dream when we photograph "something" to pay the rent again, I think we all know the project or vision we would pursue given time and freedom. Â And yes I do think that vision suffers from the chase of image-quality. (that is technical image quality) Â Its my personal opinion that the ideal camera should not "get in the way" . It should do its thing without distracting the photographer from - well photographing. Â And yes, the world and forums are full of "me too" photography captured with fantastic cameras, yet that does not make anyone an artist, just a person with a great cable able to photograph a red barn. Â I for one suffer from this distraction as I spend far more time paying my bills than photographing images I care about. Â Â Bo

Same for all tools, music instruments and the like no?
EH21 Posted November 4, 2007 Share #28  Posted November 4, 2007 ............. I am............they do have a choice  Yes this is true - but most have already lost their inner voice. It's been drowned out by the din of mass marketers, churches, lawyers, reality TV and the like.  This has been the subject of my art work. I invite all of you to see my slide show called Life Decisions on my website that shows some of the older images in the series. Just follow the link below directly to the slide show - and click on the image of the woman when you are ready to start.  Life Decisions - Current Exhibition  Eric
