ShopMoment.com, Leica M11 Long-Term Review: The Best M Camera To Date

Thanks for posting. I concur - but didn’t need the article to tell me so - because I am using one.  Unfortunately, too many people wait for everyone to “review” something before they can make a decision.  All you have to know about the M11 is that it’s the latest incarnation of the M camera and read the lengthy list of upgrades from all previous Ms and you will know it’s “that much” better than all Ms that came before.  If the improvements don’t sway you (universal you) to make the move, then buy another camera.  The most important thing is to have a quality camera with you - AND SHOOT.  If you remain behind a computer, instead of behind a camera, you (universal you again) will NEVER take any pictures, go anywhere or experience the fun that is photography.  Shooting with a less-capable camera is still more fun than reading about the best camera.

First mentioned item is battery life… if this is the reason to buy the latest m, it is pitiful. I always have spare batteries with me, no matter which camera and it never bothers me.

There is no "the reason" to buy the latest of anything, especially if you are happy with what you already have. There are many noted improvements to the M11, maybe one or more apply to you, and maybe none, that's both fine.

Actually, battery life is an important consideration. The freedom to shoot until you are done is pretty awesome! He probably mentions it because he’s coming from an m10 platform camera and is quite happy to return to m240 battery life in an m10 sized body - like the rest of us who have used cameras from  those three platforms.

You need a hug man?  Out of that whole video, very professionally done video I might add,  you find one thing you don't like and call it pitiful.

Don’t need a hug, didn’t watch the video but read the text. I simply don’t understand people complaining about battery life. If that is the first thing to write down, I call it pitiful.

I recall my SL66: battery was never a problem, but man, the additional backs I needed was painful as one could get in only 12 shots…

Obviously those complaining about batteries also never uses multiple flashes, imagine the juice you need for them…

rant over.

Lastly, this camera gives you a rangefinder experience, not a pretend one. And because of that, it's challenging and something most people won't enjoy. There's no autofocus to save you; you must work for a solid frame. That isn't objectively a good customer experience, but — it's a more rewarding experience. Shooting with a rangefinder camera, where you have to align two boxes to focus or range focus by estimating the distance of your subject, feels like a more involved photographic experience.

Ten dollars says he'll replace it with the EVF-M (if) it comes out. This is the market for the EVF-M that I'm talking about!
